This disc is like "The Continuing Adventures of Floridays". The calypso sound is prevalent here moreso than the previous album. There's just one problem with "Hot Water"..."Homemade Music". What would you say if I told you that song was chosen to be the first released single from this album?
"Baby's Gone Shopping" is a fair recovery from the lead track and brings "Frank and Lola" to mind. There isn't much to say about "Bring Back the Magic" except that it's a very good song. The same is true about "My Barracuda". Both songs almost sound as if they are the next set of doors into the private life of the head parrot (the latter being metaphorical). "L'Air de la Louisiane" is an intoxicating cover of the Jesse Winchester original and "Pre-You" is a nice "background" song. "King of Somewhere Hot" seems to start a new genre of music with its "gulf-rock" sound. The rest of the album is an exotic inferno of 'world' music. Filled with heavy caribbean rhythms, these 4 remaining songs will nearly melt your cd player. "King of Somewhere Hot", the cover "Great Heart", and "Smart Woman..." all show just how skilled Robert Greenidge is at playing the pan and are a musical testimony that proves Robert to be the best pan player in perhaps the whole world. The perfect ending to a near perfect album can be found in the final song--"That's What Living is to Me". Not only does it make up for the opening track; it is possibly the most truthful song ever written by anyone--it is the "Pirate Looks at Forty" for the 1980's.

I have always thought the "Prince of Tides" was one of his best songs ever. He would never play it at a comcert because half of the crowd comprises the very people he criticizes in the lyrics. Still, a very evocative (look it up) song.

Not one of Jimmy's stronger albums, but it was an improvement over the Riddles-Floridays period.

"Homemade Music", "Baby's Gone Shoppin'", "King of Somewhere Hot", and "Great Heart" are the songs I'd recommend. The other songs are decent. The only one that is really stupid is "Smart Woman With a Short Skirt". Though I like the lyrics, the chorus is just plain stupid to listen too.

A big plus is the good sound quality and variety on this one. The drums sound more live than previously.

This is a very underated collection. I've been a Parothead for over twenty years, and the song bring back the magic is my favorite JB song. Pre
you is also nice. Hot Water has it all, it has some slow songs, and some jazzy ones. It also has several guest musicians including Steve Winwood, The Neville Brothers, James Taylor And Rita Coolidge.

After the comeback album Floridays, Hot Water was another step in the right direction - back to the beach. Aside from the chintz of Homeade Music, the album is solid. One of his most under rated albums, the beauty of it is......The Neville Brothers.

Great album beginning to end. Could do w/out barricuda. Smart Woman, Great Heart, Prince of Tides, King of, That's what living is, all great songs. Not an album to be kept on the shelf.

I think this is one of his best. I have said it before and will say it again, Great Heart, Smart Woman and That's what living is to me is the best trifecta of Buffett songs ever!!

I love "Hot Water". I think it's greatly under-rated.

It's really bad at the mines (where I w**k) right now.

If it weren't for my headphones, L'AIR DE LA LOUISIANE and PRE-YOU, I think someone would get hurt. I do love PRINCE OF TIDES, too...the book was sooo fine and its essence is perfectly captured in the song.

Thank you, Jimmy, for helping me through some really rough patches in the mines.

Hot Water is a decent album. The opening track and the last few are not that memorable to me, but Bring Back the Magic, Pre-You, and Prince of Tides are well worth getting this disc for - My Barricuda is a decent smooth/bluesy tune with some great vocal help from the Nevilles. Different for Jimmy but it sounds good. the first 3 I mentioned to me are very box set-worthy songs.
