I don't know who I'd go for. Alan Jackson, Jimmy Buffett, George Strait, Kenny Chesney, Johnny Cash, and Toby Keith are all deserving.

Especially Johnny Cash, he IS music.

And he carries a very big sentimental value this year.

Although I think that he should get his awards based on his talent and what he's done for music and not solely on the fact that he died this year. I think that "The Man Comes Around" is an amazing album and deserves recognition.

Anybody heard this? How is it? I didn't even know it existed. Nice for Huey though.

Oh no, I wasn't trying to imply that Cash doesn't deserve the award just because he's passed on, but that is a factor. I personally can't watch the Hurt video without getting goosebumps. That is one of the best videos I've ever seen.

Huey's been pretty busy lately. I think he had a big New Year's show in Las Vegas a few months ago. Phil Vassar's kind of disappeared from the musical landscape lately though. Too bad, he's a great songwriter.

Most of those nominations are a sad indictment of how most of what passes for country music these days isn't country music at all, but "pop country". As for Cash, it's odd how just a few years ago Nashville and the country music establishment at large wouldn't give him the time of day but now that he's passed away they're falling all over each other to heap praise on him.

I knew Huey was still working (Plan B may be his best album and it came out in 2001, I think), but I had not heard this version of this song before. I managed to find a clip on a couple of online music stores, and it's not bad. It's definately a more country version of the tune with a fiddle sort of replacing the sax. The recording quality is a little better than the original, but overall I wasn't blown away.
