I average a book a day...I think most of my paycheck goes to books!

Currently I'm reading Sightings-The Gray Whales' Mysterious Journey. It is about two women who follow the Gray Whales' journey from Mexico to Alaska. I think I could have written this book...these women think and feel like I do.

Next on the list isTo Touch A Wild Dolphin

Other than nature books I also love mysteries, suspense etc. I love Robert Parker, Elizabeth Peters, Rita Mae Brown, Clive Cussler, Stuart Woods and numerous others.

My favorite all time author will always be Madeline L'Engle. She is a kindred spirit.

The Book of Joe

From Amazon.com:

After Joe Goffman's Bush Falls becomes a runaway bestseller, he never expects to go back to his small Connecticut hometown and face the outrage generated by the dark secrets his autobiographical novel reveals. But when his father suffers a life-threatening stroke, return the unhappy and unfulfilled Joe does, to meet head-on the antipathy waiting for him. Among the Bush Falls locals hellbent on revenge in this breezy sophomore effort by Tropper (Plan B) are deputy sheriff Mouse and ex-con Sean Tallon, both former members of the high school basketball team, as well as the wife of the basketball coach, who dumps a milk shake on Joe the first day he is back in town. Joe also crosses paths with his resentful older brother, Brad; Lucy, the sexy mother of a high school friend; and Carly, the only woman he ever truly loved. At its best, the novel skillfully illustrates the tenderness and difficulties of first love and friendship, exploring the aftermath of Joe's high school relationships with Carly and pals Sammy and Wayne. Fans of Tom Perrotta's sarcastic humor will appreciate Tropper's evocation of both the allure and hypocrisy of smalltown American life, particularly in drug- and alcohol-fueled episodes involving Joe's 19-year-old nephew, Jared, and a grown-up, AIDS-infected Wayne. Frequent pop culture references, particularly to Bruce Springsteen, help move things along briskly and by novel's end, Joe has learned to appreciate the virtues of Bush Falls and realize he's not perfect himself. Despite its charms, however, this boy-who-won't-grow-up novel relies too heavily on canned lines ("she's taking measurements of my soul through her eyes") and easy melodrama.

I just finished 'Can You Keep A Secret?' by Sophie Kinsella (she wrote Confessions of A Shopaholic too). Funny book, a la Bridget Jones Diary.
I'm off to the library in a few...

Heard that book really makes you think. A friend of mine reads like a mad man, and he took months to finish that book. Said he had to put it down and think about the material before continuing several times
Definitely not one of the easier books I've read. Makes Pirsig seem like "See Dick Run" but then I suppose one can't expect grasping the basics of string theory without doing the math to be a cakewalk.

:)
I was reading this subject and ran across the posts about this book. My hubby loves stuff like this, so I went out and bought it for him yesterday. You just never know what you will find out reading this board!

The book in the bag for this weekend's trip to Key Largo is Triggerfish Twist by Tim Dorsey. Don't know if I'll have time to read it, but I might get some time on the plane.

After that it's anybody's guess. I might get back into Ghost Rider by Neil Peart. Had to put it down with about 9/10ths of it finished. I couldn't plow through it anymore, though I really enjoyed it.
Triggerfish Twist is good...make time to get to it....that Dorsey has one strange mind....:)

If that's the case, check out "Loser" by Jerry Spinelli and "Five Children and It" by E. Nesbitt. The Artemis Fowl books are pretty good too.

If you like Sophie Kinsella you might want to try Jane Green as well.

I'm hoping to pick up "Mists of Avalon" by Marion Zimmer Bradley from the library tonight.

It's about the magical legend of King Arthur through the eyes of two women. There is the darkly bewitching Morgaine, half sister to Arthur and a high priestess of Avalon. For Morgaine, there is only one quest- to keep Christianity out of Britain, and return it to worship of the Mother Goddess. The lovely Queen Gwenhwyfar is torn between her duty to her king and God, and her passion for the dashing Lancelet.
And what became of sweet Melissa.... ??? Image

Didn't TNT or TBS make a movie about that story? I think I remember it from several months ago...
