In the end I was disappointed because he didn't revise history but merely interrupted it for 2 years before letting everything that did happen in reality take place in the novel.popcornjack wrote:
Revisionist historical fiction of what would have happened if Charles Lindbergh (a known isolationist and reputed Nazi sympathizer) had been elected President in 1940. Very interesting and well written and, most surprisingly for a Phillip Roth novel, almost no talk of masturbation.

Re: What are YOU reading?
I was hungry when I woke up this morning, but lamented my human necessity for food as I've been losing weight and am happy to keep it up. Thanks to the posts regarding Roth's other works, I am no longer hungry and will be feasting on Sprite Zero for brunch to combat the nausea. In fact, you guys could pitch a reality show where you take a group of people trying to lose weight and tell them the most disgusting thing you can think of first thing in the morning to keep them from eating. Think Biggest Loser meets Fear Factor.popcornjack wrote:

All of that aside, I still ordered this book this morning.
p.s. From what I understand, the writers are putting the finishing touches on a screenplay for Bill & Ted 3.

I'm a big fan of River Jordan's fiction. She's hit a home run with this memoir. Very inspirational.

Re: What are YOU reading?
I just finished 'The Lincoln Lawyer'. It was pretty good.
I'm debating on whether to read Tina Fey's 'Bossypants' or start on the GAme of Thrones series. I started watching it on HBO. Maybe I should wait until the season is over.
FYI I LOVE LOVE my Kindle!

Re: What are YOU reading?
I have a whole bag full of trashy novels I bought at the resale shop and Dollar Store to take on vacation. If I'm not knitting or crocheting, I'm reading while we are driving.
I know alot of people can't read in a car...I don't have that problem
and since I didn't spend much on the books, I leave them wherever we are when I finish them. I hope either the maids or someone else will read them and pass them on.

Have ya'll read/heard of THE INFORMATIONIST? A Q&A runs tomorrow in the paper. Very interesting debut by a great young FEMALE writer with an interesting backstory and a solid knack for storytelling.

Re: What are YOU reading?
I read The Lincoln Lawyer several years ago and loved it. That could just be because my dad is a criminal defense lawyer and drives a Town Car. Matthew Mcconaughey was not who I pictured playing the role, but maybe I'll check it out on RedBox when it comes out.MelliJellyBean wrote:I just finished 'The Lincoln Lawyer'. It was pretty good.

Go ahead and read Bossypants. It was hilarious and it's a quick read. Save Game of Thrones for after the first season is over. There are only three more episodes.

Re: What are YOU reading?
McConaughey wasn't my first choice, either. In fact, he wasn't even on my radar. But, my goodness, he is PERFECT. And Maria Tomei is spectacular as Maggie Fierce.maid memories wrote:I read The Lincoln Lawyer several years ago and loved it. I am going to purchase the movie when it comes out on DVD. It's that good.

Re: What are YOU reading?
I've read all three of the Hunger Games. The second installment is my favorite of them. I attribute this to the "arena" which is a character in itself in Catching Fire and is amazing and exciting in design. I promise I won't give anything away but all three are fantastic for what they are - fun science fiction set in a dystopian future (an idea beat to death) with a seemingly unstoppable rule (beat to death) and the peasant who becomes his nemesis (beyond beat to death) but - BUT - with enough original plot elements and truly well developed characters and settings to make it worthwhile. Again, play close attention to the arena . . . I can't wait to see it on screen.
It is "The Lottery" meets Harry Potter meets the Skywalker family . . . but done well.

the hit and run is as good as any religion around this time of year . . .

Re: What are YOU reading?
Thanks, DP. I kept thinking about Ender's Game while I was reading the first one. Am supposed to get the other two on Tuesday from a friend.drunkpirate66 wrote:I've read all three of the Hunger Games. The second installment is my favorite of them. I think the movie(s) should be interesting.
