It's the first of his that I've read. I was "bookless" for my 20 hour trip home from the FSOTW, and someone loaned it to me. I'll definitely be picking up another of his books to read!

This is kinda different for me. My wife and I went to Acapulco on Apr 27. I took two books with me. I have never been one to read for pleasure or fiction books. I have always read magazines that are informative like Time, Men's Health, Cycle World, etc and several others. As well as kept up with news via internet, TV and newpapers. All that said to say this. I read both books in a week. They were Ann Coulter's Slander and Jimmy Buffett's book Tales from Margaritaville. When I got home I immediately read Jimmy's book A Pirate Looks at Fifty and got it done quickly. I am now on my fourth book in a month, Mark Twain's Following the Equator. My next venture will probably take me back to read Jimmy's Where is Joe Merchant.

If you liked Following the Equator, trying reading Twain's Letters from the Earth. It's kind of his "take" on evolution, including lots of sarcasm. The main characters are the Devil, an ArchAngel, and Adam and Eve. I enjoyed it muchly.

Well so far so good on Following the Equator. I am at chapter 30 right now. Reading it a little slower than the others but still enjoying it! Thanks for the suggestion.

I admit that there were parts of FOLLOWING that were just too bogged down in boring detail, and I would skip a couple of pages every now and then. I learned one of my favorite quotes of all time from that book (remember I really dig dolphins)...Twain refers to playful dolfins as, "the kittens of the sea." :D

Oh, and as for what I'm reading now (that IS what the topis is about, right??? )
Just finished WICKED: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF THE WICKED WITCH OF THE WEST." Sort of a made up biography of the WW of the West, w/ TONS of detail about the land of Oz, the nature of Evil, social/political analogies. COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN!!! Shirked ALL responsibility for several days in order to keep reading it!!! If you're fan of WIZARD OF OZ, and into fantasy in general, MUST READ!!!

Just picked up the "R" installment of the Sue Grafton mysteries. Read A-O, then lost interest for a while. Was desperate for something to read last night, and the only place to buy a book was the drugstore. Happy w/ my choice so far! :D

Got this off Jimmy's desert island book list (or whatever it was called) and I'm about halfway through it. I've always been a fan of ocean exploration (my big dream is to go exploring with Bob Ballard), and like Ballard, Gary Kinder intertwines history with technology. It's definitely not light reading but it has really kept my interest.

Wow what a read. I can't wait to start reading A Salty Piece of Land!!! but first I am committed to finish the Following the Equator book
