The official Cinci/Riverbend concert/tailgaiting thread!
Two of us scored eight tickets today!
Here's where I've seen Jimmy:
1) Biloxi, MS (I was in high school)
2) Atlanta, GA (all day tailgaiting at the venue!)
3) Chicago twice (great shows, abbreviated tailgaiting allowed)
4) Tampa, FL (great for an indoor facility)
This is our first time to Cincy, and we like to tailgate ALL DAY. How do yall think it will stack up to the others I've been to (for tailgaiting and the venue)?
Thanks! FINS UP!!

The tailgating @ Riverbend is tricky. You can't tailgate in the venue parking lot. You have to get into one of the lots across the street from the amphitheater/racetrack. Once you get into one of those lots, the tailgating ranks right up there with some of the best venues.
I like the pavillion @ Riverbend, but I'll never see a show from the lawn there again.
If someone gave me lawn tix to Riverbend, I'd sell 'em, go buy beer, and listen to the show from across the street. I'll get to see just as much without paying $7 a beer.

tailgating at riverbend is some of the best, but like s&r said you will have to do the tailgating in the river downs parking lot (the race track) which is across the street! def. make your way over there i think were gonna start about noon or 1:00 that day hope to see ya there!

Tailgating in Cincy
My husband and I were there for the FSOTW tour in 2002. The tailgating across the street was a blast, but watch out for the traffic. It can be scary! Just as a heads up, we couldnt take ANYTHING into the venue, no blankets or anything, which means people stand in front of you and start to move you from your spot. That part sucked and I probably wouldn't sit on the lawn there again either. Other than that, we had a blast.

Absolutely what S&J said! If you can get a spot across the road, next to the woods, you should try that! That's a great place to tailgate and you can spread out there. I thought the lawn was alright. It's so much smaller than Chicago and Alpine so I thought there really weren't any bad spots to see the show. But then again, not all of us were watching the show either...we were dancing, singing and having fun...not being obnoxious, but not focused on the stage either. I don't know, I think it was the same as all the other lawns I've watched a show from.

Riverbend lawn

As you can see, it's considerably smaller than Atlanta's.
The three beefs I have are (in no particular order):
1. No aisles. Access to the lawn is from the back and sides only. What this means for you is a constant stream of people pushing past you. Because once a route through the crowd is established, it tends to be the route of least resistance for the single-file line of people to use as they go back to the head. I was actually sucker-punched in the back of the head the last time we were on the lawn because I got tired of the line seperating me from my wife and moved over toward her, making the drunk in question alter his route by a whole 3 feet.
2. You don't really see it from the picture, but the front 50 or so feet of the lawn is useless, because it seems to be lower than the last row of seats by several feet, and you can't see the big screens from that angle. What this means for you is that a lot of people will stay in the parking lot drinking until right before the show. When they come in, they see all this wonderful real estate at the front of the lawn, not realizing that there's a reason that nobody is there. When they get there and discover the problem, they just start backing up, pushing everybody else back and causing lots of problems.
3. If you look at the pavillion structure, you see the girder work. If you are straight on to the stage looking between the girders, you can see. At an angle, it looks like this:

That shot is taken looking out toward the lawn from the pavillion, but you get the idea.
I love the lawns in Atlanta and Nasville. But give me the pavillion in Cincy.

The last time I went to Cinci, I had a blast (2002). We ended up at the very front of the lawn, without an obstructed view, and right in front of one of the screens. Most important to our fun, we were standing in front of the coolest security guards I've ever seen at a Buffett show- not only was he throwing the beach balls back into the crowd, he took pictures of and with our group.
