As an unaffected bystander, it seems to me you're over-reacting. Give Bubba a break - he's mixing things up a bit this year. I highly doubt it's anything personal to any regular GW attendees.

GW is a favorite place to play, as he mentions and as implied by the 2 show Labor Day tradition of recent years. But when given an opportunity to play a legendary landmark, and probably a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity at that, why not give it a try? I applaud him! There's history, and nostalgia, and I think it's an honor bestown upon him that he is graciously accepting.

Change is good!

I think its a one year only thing too. Sometimes things change and you just have to live with it. We can still have fun even tho it wont be the same. We're going to try for NJ this weekend and Jones Beach if that comes around and if I dont get anything even fenway oh well........theres always next year. and BTW does anyone think the whole tour is alot more than usually?
You're right-a lot of people HAVE b_itched about it, so we'll see what Jimmy decides next year. If I were living in the Boston area, I'd obviousy prefer Great Woods, but if Fenway were my only option, I'd probably also b_itch, but end up going anyway. And I'm sure I'd have a good time, as is the M.O. for parrotheads. (Although Pirate Jeff's offer of a party in his back yard sounds VERY tempting).
As for this being a "one time thing", we'll see. We all thought two years ago that no Club Trini in the parking lots prior to the shows was a one time thing because of the HOKEY-POKEY *****, but last year there was ALSO no Club Trini, despite their presence being the wish of EVERY veteran parrothead.
Because of that and a few other things, like some of you, I also feel Jimmy no longer cares for the average fan, yet I still go. I'm not looking to be his life-long friend either, although THAT would be nice, but instead just partying with LOTS of average fans and enjoying some good music.
Hopefully he'll at LEAST let Club Trini play their mini-show in the parking lot prior to the concert. C'MON, JIMMY-we already pay through the noses and are lucky if we get ANY tickets-let's get a LITTLE more bang for our buck, okay?

I am an outsider on the whole Great Woods Fiasco of 2004, but people lets get real here. Just because Jimmy doesnt cater to whatever us folks at Buffettnews wants, doesn't mean he doesnt care for his fans. Jimmy deserves to play Fenway Park. He is a baseball fan, he loves the northeast, naturally Fenway Park fits into that equation. Before we all get on a rant about how Jimmy has sold out, doesnt care for the fans, etc.... read his sisters column about Jimmy and some other things.

http://www.lulubuffett.com/column.htm

I hope this helps some of you realize that Jimmy isnt just some rich p**** that rolls around in his money all day, and thinks of new ways to screw over his fans. Lighten up everybody!

By the way you do realize that this is just a 1 time thing? I can guarentee you he will not be playing Fenway next year. Do you see Bruce coming back anytime soon????
Look, if he plays Jones Beach, and I don't need a second morgage to purchase tickets for it, my wife and will certainly go.

But there is no way in heck that we will spend the ferry fees, hotel fees, kennel fees (for our dog) - travel the better part of a day - to see JB in an acoustically challenged ballpark.

We're loyal fans, but we're not stupid.

maybe JB should have taken into consideration your ferry fees, hotel fees and kennel fees before making his decision, I'm sure next time he will
Irrespective of that fact that you are intentionally sidestepping the point I have been trying to make....please know that your sarcasm is most
definitely NOT appreciated.
Listen JB doesn't owe me or you anything. I get what I want out of him and in return he gets my money. It's a conscience decision I make everytime I go to a show. Just don't go then, it's really that simple. By the way you sidestepped my question. Why do you even come to this website than if you beleive he doesn't care about his fans? I certainly wouldn't. Why go the the Jones Beach show then? If your going to Boycott then BOYCOTT.
Sometimes I wonder if people read for content anymore.

I am espousing a boycott of the Fenway Park shows, and ONLY the Fenway Park shows because - and ONLY because - they are replacing the Great Woods shows, which I feel are a tradition that should not be broken until Jimmy decides to retire.

OH....the HECK with it! I've read most of the posts here, and if you folks don't give a darn, I guess why should I? If y'all want to spend hundreds of $$$ to see JB in a "legendary" ballfield with lousy acoustics and no place to tailgate, so be it...I won't rain any further on your parade from Great Woods to Fenway.

 again I love the humor. If you truly beleive he doesn't care about his fans then why would you even come to this website  ? By the way he has been super rich for the past 20 years.
what does coming here have to do with jimmy caring about his fans? :-? it's not like i expect him to be hangin out here one night talking to me. i just like this group of people

my point was that if you truly feel that Jimmy doesn't care about his fan base and only plays for the money why would you go to any shows and give him MORE money and it's strange to me that one would spend time on a JB website. If you come here because you just like talking to others on the board than I can understand that. If I felt that way about a performer I would find a different website to chat in... but thats just me.

If we were to successfully boycott Fenway (and this won't happen, nor would I want it to), I imagine the more likely outcome would be that there would be NO shows in the Boston area next year, and two additional shows in some other deserving city.....

You say Jimmy no longer cares about his fans? Jimmy's probably got more money than he can spend..... he probably doesn't need to tour at all..... he could sit and chill out in Palm Beach, Long Island, Maui, etc, forever, and to hell with us..... and yet he still hits the road....

but, by all means, if you feel you should boycott, PLEASE DO!!! :D

so you think i have to like a peformer personally to like their music?i simply dont care for the direction that i feel buffett has gone in the past 5 years or so.i still like his music and the fellow fans on this site(most of them).
and in regards to your money issue,i dont give him my money anymore.i have not bought an album since FSOTW and will not buy another until he comes out with some good music that i like.pretty simple i think :-?

if he no longer needs or wants the money why would he have done that private gig last year he ended up getting so much grief over?the one that paid him 150 grand or something like that.because he wanted the money obviously.

well I guess that's where we differ. If I felt that way I just wouldn't give JB anymore of my money no matter where he was playing. I certainly don't agree with all his decisions (I thought his DVD was crap and I wish he would write more of his own songs). The day I feel that he his ONLY doing it for the money and no longer enjoys us or the excitement we bring is the day I stop going.

I applaud your convictions, Tomcat.
As badly as I want to go to Chicago and Alpine, if I had to pay over face value for any ticket, I wouldn't go.
I HAVE been shut out before, and have paid $20.00 over face value to a fan with an extra ticket, but that was for HIS trouble, and I'd never do business with a broker.
I know I said I'd go to Fenway if I lived in the Boston area, but I'd no doubt complain about it, while prefering Great Woods.
What's REALLY the saddest thing about all this, is that no matter if he plays at Fenway or Great Woods, fans have to literally FIGHT six months prior to the event, and still the odds of them getting a ticket still aren't that great.
Oh, well, I hope everyone here who wants to gets to at least ONE concert this year.

well if it was just to go see him play i wouldnt even consider going.but the parrothead atmosphere is more than half the show for me.thats the main reason i go.i f i just wanted to hear jimmy's music i'd stay home and listen to cd's.
the fact that he feels the need to put out an album every single year yet hasnt written more than a few new songs himself is another thing that makes me think it's all about the money these days.and the songs he does write feel like it was just something whipped up to fill space on a disc.
i certainly didnt need another greatest hits cd.and i pay to listen to jimmy, not jimmy sing other peoples music.i'd rather he went 5 years between releases but came out with stuff he wrote.

i havent been to GW in 2 years now.last year i missed out completely,2 years ago i found it was cheaper and easier to rent an RV and drive to cincy for the show.thats pretty sad :-?

but y'know, some of my favorite "JB" songs either weren't written by JB, or were co-written with others. I *LOVE* Mac's songs, and the ones JB co-wrote with Matt Betton (SBH, for one). I think we would have missed out on some greats songs if JB sang only songs that he wrote by himself. :D
