That IS sad, but I've been to Cincinnati, and it's a fun place for a concert and tail gating. STILL, if he's playing in your area, it would be nice to be able to go without donating a kidney and a child.

it was fun and a good adventure.too bad it was cheaper to drive half way across the country to see a show than to drive 45 minutes from my house

It paid him significantly more than that...
And why would he do it? Because somebody offered him stupid amounts of money for a show. He may not be in it purely for the money, but he's also not a fool.
SGH is right - Jimmy has enough money that even the fact that he's touring is indicitive of his respect for the fans. He could just as easily sail away for good and that day may not be too long from now....
And wherever he plays is fine with me... life is too short to b**** and moan about what venue Jimmy chooses.

Like Lee said, it was way more than 150 G's, but it also didn't come out of ticket buyer's pockets. It was one rich guy who paid through the nose, and why shouldn't Jimmy make money off his skills? If someone offered me an obscene amount of money to play music for an afternoon, *I'd* sure as hell take it!!
I didn't say Jimmy didn't WANT the money, only that at this stage of the game, with his bidness interests (and investments, no doubt), he probably doesn't NEED that much more money from touring to live comfortably.

Whew, what a thread!
If I made $25.8 million last year, you wouldn't see, hear or even hear rumors about me for years! We need to be thankful that he tours at all. This year I am blessed to have him in my home town, but that is not always the case. Last year he didn't play here but I caught Columbia, SC (90 miles), Nashville, TN (430 miles), and Mansfield, MA (850 miles).
Besides, going to a new place with new Parrotheads is always a good thing. Sometimes you gotta get out of your comfort zone and just do it. I have met some of the nicest people OUTSIDE of my area.

Nice thread!
It seems like there are two simultaneous b**** sessions going on here.
1) that JB's musical output isn't as good as it used to be, and
2) that JB doesn't love his fans.
My opinion on #1 - JB's most memorable songs were when he was, to steal from Hank III, broke, lovesick, and driftin'. Well, guess what! Thanks to US he is NOT broke anymore, and he seems to have cured the lovesick and driftin' part pretty well too. So maybe he doesn't have as much artistic pain to draw from.
As for #2, there is no easy answer to the lack of tickets. I would imagine that 90% of the people at shows are parrotheads, which means that WE are the ones keeping others of us from seeing shows. How about if we only went to ONE show each year so others of us could get a ticket? And this BS about JB's "tradition" of going to one venue or another. I remember years ago when he played bars in Clemson, SC once a week for FREE. Let's get back to that tradition and forget about him travelling out west or up north. Or let's start a new tradition, where he plays from his studio and we pay to watch on PPV, so everyone who wants to watch can pay there $39.95 and tune in.
As for me, I'll take my chances on him coming close enough for me to afford the weekend trip, and whether it's Atlanta, or Nashville, or Greensboro, I know I'll have a blast.

Yeah... kinda odd too, as it started out by someone merely offering a suggestion (
albeit completely unworkable, considering how high the demand for tickets will be) to get Jimmy
back into the best venue and parking lot on the tour and nothing more!

I’m glad to know where the ‘best’ venue is located. I know some people in Cincy who would probably argue that point. For me the best place to see Buffett is where I happen to be at the time!

I've read all the posts concerning the Great Woods-vs-Fenway debate and why Jimmy should or shouldn't play the show. All I've got to say is chill out! Like any entertainer, Jimmy loves to play in front of a live audience, and to challange his skills as a performer. He know's the only thing he has to prove to himself is if he can win the crowd over. How many performers can say "I played Fenway Park, packed them in floor to ceiling, and had them begging for more"? I'd made plans earlier in the year to travel from my great state of Florida to enjoy the experience at Great Woods (very few appropriate venues), but had to change them when the switch to Fenway was proposed. I know everyone can't afford to travel, and I think renting the parking lot at Great Woods would be a great way to show Jimmy there's still a huge group of fans who go for the experience, not just the show. Let Jimmy live his life, and you go on living yours. Your paths will cross again soon.

ONLY 1 SO FAR BUT THAT IS SIMPLY DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY JUST STARTED DOING CONCERTS.THAT PLACE WOULD BE PACKED TO SEE ANYBODY PLAY.

Ok, so let Jimmy pay the band with the money he already has
Seriously, both sides of this are right BUT he may not be touring for the fans. He has done this so long he would go stir crazy if he sat too long. He loves doing the entertainment part.
I think most of us are just disappointed in the dates, places and the quality of the music recently. Even FSOTW he only wrote ONE. He co-wrote several more. I wouldn't mind as much if the cowrites were more with the band than outsiders. Lee that is NO slam on you!

your right, but the thing is that they don't allow just "anybody" to play there and thats what makes this somewhat special and one of the reasons JB wants to play there so much.

RAGTOP wrote:my point was that if you truly feel that Jimmy doesn't care about his fan base and only plays for the money why would you go to any shows and give him MORE money and it's strange to me that one would spend time on a JB website. If you come here because you just like talking to others on the board than I can understand that. If I felt that way about a performer I would find a different website to chat in... but thats just me.
I thought about your comment on the way home. I don't totally disagree with it but let me tell you my side. Jimmy's music and lifestyle gave a whole new meaning to my life. I found this site because of Cuervo (yes it's his fault) and found like minded/lifestyle people here. So for me I might not like what is going on right now with Jimmy but I do not hate him for it and he still has brought some quality to my life and through this website I have made many new phriends.

I REALLY THINK ONCE THEY SEE HOW MUCH MONEY THERE IS TO BE MADE THEY ARE GOING TO ALLOW ANYBODY TO PLAY THERE
