How is JB's live CD "You Had To Be There"? Anyone know where I can get it for a good price?

It's a great album! The greatest version of God's Own Drunk.
Amazon has it for around $17 used. Ebay has one right now for $12.50.

Why do you think that? Better then T,T,&S? It isn't very cheap and it is hard to find, so I don't know if I want to get it or not.

I believe this is JB in his prime. It rocks at parts and the second CD starts out with the "original Coral Reefer Band" (Jimmy and a guitar).
Cut my parrot head teeth on that album.
Also, you get to hear HIM sing the songs, before everyone knew the words, and there is no SALT, SALT, SALT (I am a purist).

great versions of Wonder Why We Ever Go Home, Landfall, Miss you so Badly and Havana Daydreamin. Definatly JB in his prime, plus if you never got to see Jb in the 70's (like me) this is a great way to at least hear him .

Or if you did get to see him in the 70's (like me) it helps you remember. If you miss Fingers Taylor, you will never tire of Dixie Diner.

His best live album by far but in dire need of remastering. I don't know about everyone else's copy but the volume is very low on mine. The vinyl still sounds fine though.

J, as Spinal Tap would say "Crank it up to 11!"
Then again, if you have the "CD shuffle" on with his other albums, that could cause the neighbors to complain.

I spent a Saturday a while back and listened to YHTBT, Feeding Fr. and TTS all in a row.

There is absolutely no comparision. Its when I became a parrothead and it takes me back everytime. I still love it the most. (No senior moments either)

I don't own it, but I borrowed it once for a few days and listened to it as many times as I could. I really liked it, and as someone mentioned earlier, it really is a nice musical snapshot of Jimmy at that point in his career.

I plan on getting it at some point, but I have issues with paying full CD prices, so I'm usually trolling the used stores. If you can find it for under 20 bucks, I'd pick it up.

I love that album. It captures his earlier sound. Back before the band had 15 people. Some great versions of favorite songs. Fingers' solo on Wonder why we ever go home is fantastic. Call me a purist but that is some of his best music. I think it is a must have for any PHead. Your milage may vary.

I think YHTBT should be manditory listening. I only wish I could have seen him in the 70s. The sound of the band is much different than it is today.

And not only do you get some great versions of songs, I love Tampico Trauma and this is the original place to hear the lost verse of M'ville. You also get to hear JB's interaction with the audience. Plus it is the ONLY place to get Perrier Blues, Morris' Nightmare and Dixie Diner, all great songs.

Remember, it was the 70s, there is more profanity and drug references than you hear at a Buffett show today.

It is the best live album, period. Jimmy at the height of his popularity and in the midst of the craziness.

YHTBT is a must! I went a while without listening to it, and listened to it a few days ago. It is great, this is coming from somebody who wasnt even alive then! I also have the recording of Jimmy playing at the Margaritaville Key West in December(??) right after he finished recording License to Chill. The recording is poor, and Jimmy's voice is awful, but hilarious! He was wasted, and his interaction with the crowd was just like YHTBT.

I am more of a 80's and up release fan. BUT YHTBT is a MUST HAVE. "Feeding Frenzy" and "Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays", are great CDs. But YHTBT is the first and UNBEATEN. Best Buy has it for $2%, I think, but it's a steal for a 2 disk set. BUY IT :D

It's not my favorite live album by him, but it's definately a damn good one. I paid $29.00 for it at Best Buy, and "Morris' Nightmare" ALONE was worth that.
He does a great version of "He Went To Paris", and "Son of A Son Of A Sailor", and there really isn't a clunker on the entire 2-disk set. Absolutely get it.
