My wife is another "reluctant parrothead". We went to our first show together and have made it every year since until this year. she won't be joining us at Alpine. She likes the Jimmy alright, it's just not her first choice. But she doesn't complain when Jimmy's on and she sings along with the songs that she knows. Maybe someday she'll convert completely.

Well, I'm working on it... She was very receptive to learning Buffett and she went to her first show last summer at GW... I've managed to get her to agree to 3 shows this summer! Although, I still wouldn't call her a full fledged parrothead I'm hoping by the end of the summer she will be!

I loved Bubba in the '70's, then I got married (1st time) and kind of drifted away. After the "D"...... didn't really listen much, but then I met Ms right, we're both from the Redneck riviera, and like me she had backslid. One day in the ninetys, we saw a new album "SYKBH" and decided to give it a go, that was it! Now we are both back in the Phold, me more than her. She knows when I go out to the Patio, It's over! Once she actually said, "can't we listen to something else?" In a word...... NO!

My wife owned SYKBH and had a roommate who owned the box set. That was the extent of her exposure to Jimmy before we got married. I’ll never forget when she said ”he has how many albums…!” We’ve been married almost six years and she’s been to eight concerts together (I’d been to several before we tied the knot). I also had no problem talking her into a trip to Key West! We are expecting our first child in July and she will be named Delaney. She’s also very disappointed as she won’t be going to Nissan this year. Being nine months pregnant in the heat and humidity of a Virginia summer is not something to tackle. If I can come up with a ticket, I will be going though!

My husband "gets" why I like Jimmy and appreciates it, but he isn't a Parrothead. He went to a few concerts with me and had a great time. Jimmy's music just isn't his bag is all. He completely understands that I want to go to a concert each year (I can always find a BN buddy to hang with :wink: ), Jimmy's just not his style of music is all.

So the answer is, no my significant other is not a Parrothead, but I love him anyway. :D

Well my I guess I would call my husband a reluctant parrothead. He doesn't like to listen to his music constantly. He doesn't understand how I can be so in to it.

He does come with me every year to alpine though and he always says that Jimmy does put on a great show. And of course he LOVES all the boobs in the parking lot. But, every single year we get in the car and hit the road for alpine he says WE ARE NOT LISTENING TO BUFFETT ALL THE WAY DOWN ARE WE? Of, course we are!!! :D :D :D

Otherwise there is absolutely nobody around that I know that are parrotheads. I used to have some good friends years ago that were parrotheads but they moved away. It would be nice to have others around here that were into his music as much as I am.

We keep trying to get friends to go to Alpine with us but they all keep saying no. I am a rather shy person so basically all hubby and I do when we get to alpine is walk around looking at everyone and then when they open the gates we go grab our seats. I'm not the kind of person to just walk up to a group of people and start a conversation/party with them. I really need to start drinking before we hit the parking lot so I can loosen up a bit :D
It would be nice to bring along some friends that we know and just sit back and relax.

You really need to look up the BN gang at Alpine this year. From my non-concert experiences, after roughly 1 minute, you'll feel like you've known them for years. (see the Alpine thread under Pre Concert Gatherings area, and get on the cell phone list.) Your new handy dandy lanyards will help spark conversation as well!

~~~~~~~^~~~~~~~
As for me, my hubby doesn't get it, and I can't explain it to him. He's known some SYKBH, but has never put in a Buffett cd without my coaxing. He came with to Alpine last year, but returned to the parking lot at intermission, complaining that all the songs sound the same. :( He said he's "one and done", although he is considering joining us for the bus trip and parking lot activities, then starting up a poker game or something while we're in at the show.
He also thinks my guitar-playing brothers are weird, and leaves all gatherings once the cases open and the jam sessions begin. It's how I was brought up, and where my Buffett addiction began.
I guess I feel fortunate that he condones my enthusiasm, instead of trying to squelch it! And I do love him dearly!
After reading some of these posts I have feel fortunate to be able to say that my hubbie (Coach Romeo) is almost as big of a PH as I am. We went to an Atlanta show on our second date 12 years ago (first date was to a Braves game). Believe it or not, he first listened to JB when he was in college in South Dakota back in the 70's. He said some cowboys from Wyoming had a couple of albums that they all enjoyed listening to. His favorite song now is "Cowboy in the Jungle." Very fitting!
My hubby introduced me to Jimmy almost 8 years ago, I must say that it was love at first listen!!! We couldn't get enough, went to our first show together 5 years ago in Raleigh. This year we are going back. It is really great to have something to listen to together. I'm usually country, he is rock, but when it comes to Buffett we are on the same page. We even built a Tiki bar on our deck, where nothing is heard but JB!!! :D :D :D
I too am a lucky one. When we got together i had been to 7 shows already and she had been to three so it was just a natural thing for us to plan our summer around jimmy and the Great Woods parking lot. We've been together for 5 years now and made a show a year together. By the way i have been a deadhead for about as long (maybe a little longer) as i have been a parrothead. I do believe i heard Jimmy say once "it's not that far from a deadhead to a parrothead" and he is right!
This is a fun topic. There seems to be a huge range of SO interest in Jimmy!
I think my husband is pretty typical - he's not a Parrothead. I think he actually really likes the idea behind Jimmy but just not necessarily the music. He's into more "dark" alternative stuff. However, there are some Jimmy songs that he really loves, including 5:00 Somewhere, Little Miss Magic, Changes in Latitudes, Everybody's Talkin'. He HATES Cheeseburger because he was tortured with it as a pledge in his fraternity (they played CIP at full volume for 6 hours after the pledges had drunk about a case of beer each and then slept for only about 3 hrs.)
He comes with me to the concerts every year, and doesn't flinch at spending $200+ for lawn tickets. I think part of the fun for him is seeing how happy Jimmy makes me. I get so excited, goofy, silly - he loves seeing me like that! He even stood with me in the pouring rain all night last summer to hear the Today Show concert. So although he's not a parrothead, he's very supportive of my parrothead-ism!
I was so excited on a recent trip to Florida - we both made one CD to listen to in the car. Mine was about 75% Jimmy, his was mostly 80s stuff (which I also like). The plan was to alternate the CDs. After about 2 days, he decided to ditch the alternating plan and just stick with the Jimmy CD. This is the first time he's ever initiated listening to Jimmy, so there's hope for him!
Sorry so long. :lol:
My wife and I met at a baseball game (she's as big a sports fan as I am--one lightbulb went on). We got to talking about summer plans and I mentioned I would be road-tripping to see Buffett in Denver in a couple of weeks. She started telling me she was a big fan and was jealous. So as a test, I asked her about her favorite songs and, sure enough, almost all of them were NOT on SYKBH! (Second lighbulb went on.) I ended up getting her an extra ticket and, even though I'd only known her for two weeks, we survived a three-day road trip to see Jimmy. After that, a whole bunch of lightbulbs went on and I knew I was on to something. So three years and 8 concerts later, we're happily married.
Plus, her mom is the coolest and paid for us to meet her in Vegas for last fall's show. :D
oh, and for my sig. other story....no, no, no.....end of sad story.....
