The guy decided if I go to small it will look cheesy so.....Thursday it is! Man I am sooooo scared...they gave me some numbing cream, do you think it will help? Everyone is calling me a wus because of it....oh well

the numbing cream is brand new stuff, not every parlor has it yet. i had it put on when i got my second tat (which was 2 months ago). it doesnt completly numb you, but it helps a lot!

Personally, I think using any sort of local anesthetic for tattooing or piercing is cheating, and more importantly detracts from the expereince. Not that I enjoy the pain, but it certainly makes me appreciate the piece much more. In the process of doing my backpiece, I have sat through several 8+ hour sessions. They were horrible, but it gave me a sense of accomplishment that would not be there if I was numbed first. Let's face it - if it didn't hurt, anybody could do it.

The pain is part of the process...it's not that bad. Anesthetic is for root canals...

Well I am doin it and I'm doin it with numbing cream so there ph4ever  :) I have never understood that if you have an option not to be in pain or in as much pain why you would choose the pain????? I will post as soon as I get it done! I am sooooooo excited! My hubby will have a heart attack when he sees it though. He left to go fishing thinking I was getting a small fish on my leg...hehehe

The worst pain I felt was my left breast.

The longest time I was in the chair was about 3 hours for a rose on my back. We did take a couple of breaks thou.

The one on my bicep took 2 hours, my ankle took 30-45 minutes.

The one on my chest hurt pretty bad too, although it was a short sitting - just over 2 hours.

I have a dolphin tat on the inside of my right ankle. :) It's about 4 inches high, and I love it! It didn't hurt nearly as bad as I thought it would.

Well, I guess the foot is a good enough place to start.

As for what you got out of your ink, it means something different to everyone. For me, it is mostly for the lasting art. However, I also get a sense of accomplishment from mine - facing a long-term commitment with something difficult and painful and getting through it (so far anyway, back is not quite done yet). If that doesn't mean anything to you, then by all means wuss out...er, I mean get numbed.
