It may appear that the entire country of Iraq is resisting our forces but that is simply not true. Since the resistence makes for interesting television that is what the media outlets report.

Well, in this case because, as the invading nation, we're obligated under international law to provide security to the nation we invade.
Had it been a UN invasion, the UN would shoulder the responsibility. But for now it's just us.
I understand what both of you are saying. My point was simply that many of them did not want us there, they still don't and because they weren't an immediate threat we didn't need to go. Al Quada terrorism should have been the priority. I am tired of the US being the policeman for the world. That was why I got out of the military in the 90's during the Clinton administration. Lee, As far as providing security, no problem there when we invade but where is the exit strategy ? Why are we letting this turn into a desert Vietnam ?
I don't necessarily think we should police the world either. When a nation is in need they look to the U.S. for help. For example when Haiti erupted in violence President Bush was criticized by the same people protesting Iraq for not getting involved earlier. Well hello folks we can't have it both ways we are either in or out.

Don't ask me man.

I would have assumed that a well-thought out plan would have been in place before our leaders took on the awesome responsibility of invading a nation and deposing the government. Not sure there is an easy way out now... But then the easiest way to get out of trouble is to avoid getting in it in the first place.
Perhaps the two people sent to Iraq as part of coallition forces by the country of Eritrea might have some good ideas.

So do I, even though I don't usually agree with them.

Suppression of the right to dissent will be the downfall of our society.
It is the core of our being, the inalienable right that we have fought to protect for +225 years. It is the wound from France that is why my father can barely walk today. Why my Uncle Bob came home from the south pacific without a leg.
To wage a war on Iraqi's or "terrorism" at the expense of our liberties is what I object to, not whether or not we should have gone in the first place.

I agree. Think of this if the U.S. didn't get involved in that war France would be speaking German and they still don't like us.
