Sad and Strange News...from the CPHC
A reliable sourse has reported that The Coral Reefer Band, which has more or less consisted of the same members
for the past 15 years, will undergo a major shake up for Jimmy's "License toChill" Tour this summer.
Jimmy Buffett praised all of the members and went as far to say that they
are the best group of musicians that he ever toured with. However, he felt
like he's been coasting (pardon the pun) for a while and cited a need do
something drastic to get the creative juices flowing again.
For the first time, Jimmy acknowledged publicly that he'll probably only
tour for the next year or two. He wanted to try get back to an earlier
sound with a "leaner & meaner" band that rocks. "I want to go out on my own
terms. I never had more fun than I did in the late '70's. I realize that
you can never go home again, but my goal is to try and recapture the level
of energy and excitement that was associated with my shows back around the
time that we recorded "You Had To Be There".
With the exception of Mr. Utley and Ralph MacDonald, the Coral Reefer Band
will be totally different when Jimmy hits the road later this month. Peter
& Jim Mayer, Roger Guth, Robert Greenidge, the Reeferettes and the horn
section are all out.
Gone too will be the elaborate stage sets that have become customary over
the past decade or so. Jimmy has stated that the music will be priority
one.
Several of the musicians who worked in the studio with Jimmy on his new cd
will also be joining him on the road including Sonny Landreth and Will
Kimbrough.
Jimmy realizes that not seeing those same familiar faces on stage might be
unsettling for fans. However, he reminded them that early on, the members
of the Coral Reefer Band changed almost from year to year.
He's sure that once the lights go down and the new Coral Reefer Band get
going, the audience will be won over in short order.
Jimmy also had a special message for his fans...
