From The St. Petersburg Times
April 22nd will not be Jimmy Buffett's only stop in Tampa this year. Promoters of the First Annual FallFest at Raymond James Stadium announced their headlining acts today.
October 2nd will see everyone's favorite Caribbean rocker joined by three more of this years biggest tours. The event, which has been in planning for more than two months, will include a bevy of local and lesser known acts to be announced later. Don Bluthmeier, the event's founder, said, "We started this to meld together a blend of different styles. You have the searing guitar of Eddie Van Halen, the unique funk riffs of Prince, the casual fun of Jimmy Buffett, and the raw sexuality of Madonna."
Bluthmeier is still hoping to land one or two more headliners. "We have the option of turning this into a two day, thing, if we get one or two more big names, we will."
Tickets are expected to go on sale in late August, but the prices have yet to be determined. Bluthmeier points to a Dallas show featuring Buffett, Alan Jackson, and George Strait for clues. "We'll probably be selling tickets in that same price range, one hundred plus, maybe a little more."
For those of you wondering about the possibility of the four artist sharing the stage, Bluthmeier references the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony earlier this year. "Prince seems to really enjoy playing with others. He's a masterful guitarist, and he's expressed interest in playing with Van Halen. On top of that, Buffett's next album, I'm told, is full of guest appearances, so I think he's enjoying sharing the stage a little."
Jam sessions or not, this will likely be the musical event of the year for the Tampa Bay area.
