I guess I ruffled those feathers.kitty wrote:I agree...if you don't think a thread warrents your time and attention...don't read it! I don't understand why some feel the need to critisize what people write, whether they think it warrents 5 pages or not. Obviously, if people are responding to this...it has some merrit, even if all don't think so.rednekkPH wrote:Here we go again with the "I don't like it, so it doesn't belong here" song and dance. Why can't people grasp the concept of not reading the threads that don't interest them? It seems so straightforward to me.
Hey...if you have taken the time to read through this thread yet think it is so useless...why do some of you take the time to respond just to say that it is stupid and not worth the time?![]()
Bottom line...there is still free speech and freedom to write what you want...but no one is being forced to read it...so if you don't find any interest in something, rather than critisize, why not just ignore it?
Not sure if some of your comments are in response to mine but bringing up the 5 page comment makes me think some are. I am not a writer so I will express myself as sensible as I can.
So free speech is okay for some and not others? I guess I should have made my post 2 or 3 more paragraphs long to get my point across of what I meant. I guess it's time for me to express my freedom of speech.
If anyone took what I posted to mean that no one has the right to express what they feel then you are mistaken. You are right these threads are just like TV or Radio. If you don't like what your reading/seeing/hearing turn it off.
That being said when I see a thread that says "Am I really an A**hole" by someone who I have meant and have an opinion of then yes I am going to read it and see what's up. Unfortunately this thread as so many others get you sucked in because they start off talking about a half full glass of water and turn into a no it's half empty argument.
The original topic was about Gumby who was looking for what people really thought of him by making a poll for people to respond. What his reasons were for doing so are his own and whether right or wrong it was something he felt he needed to do.
Now where my comment of 5 pages into 1 comes in is that all the posts actually responding to the subject matter amount to 1 maybe 2 pages with the rest being bickering over who feels slighted, how people get run off, whose avatar is inappropiate, what people do at other boards, what subject matter is acceptable etc. If someone wanted to discuss that shouldn't that be in another thread? If it was someone would not have to wade(sorry 7lords) thru 5 pages of items that do not address the original subject to read the posts that do.
As far as the free speech thing applying to the message board I do believe everyone has the right to express themselves however they wish whenever they wish however they wish with an exception. When it becomes mean spirited and personal then it should end since that is not the true spirit of this board. Many threads have started out with a simple question or opinion such as, religious belief, shrimp, concert venues, scalpers, sports (shall I go on?) and turned out to be backstabbing, mean spirited *****.
A thread where a Parrothead had a legitimate personal question important to him has started to turn into one of those threads.
The above is my opinion, I do not expect nor do I want to make anyone think like I do. We should not all be clones, if we were this place would be pretty boring. Then again I am sure some of you are thinking of the old "Everyone has an opinion" cliche. Hmmmmm maybe I should start my own poll?
