****4 out of 5 stars
I listened to it once when I first bought & then I threw it on the cd rack. But a few months later I gave it another chance and now I love it.I don't know what was thinking.I was still in my early Parrotthead stage and I was only wanting to hear songs like Margaritaville.(Buffet stereotype)
This album is kind of mellow with a few exceptions
and I love to listen to it while laying in my hammock. It takes me to Magaritaville anyway~~~^~^^~^^phinz up

"With calypso beat and down-island sound" this disc really grooves. The one song that doesn't seem to fit here is "You'll Never Work In Dis Bidness Again". It sounds too rough and poppy with the rest of the songs. The live version on "Feeding Frenzy" is absolutely flawless and not performed live as often as it should be. "I Love the Now" is reminiscent of "Everybody's on the Run" and "Creola" has just the right dash of cajun spice in its calypso rhythms. The same is true for "First Look" which takes you down to Brazil for a short 4 minutes that seems to last all day. "Meet Me in Memphis" has enough blues and soul in it to sound like a Temptations cover and yet, it surprisingly fits in on this disc. There are two songs on here that tend keep the cd from being a tour-de-force; they are "Nobody Speaks to the Captain No More" and "When the Coast is Clear". They are good songs, but they could've been a pair of nice surprises for the Ballads cd in the Boxed Set. Listening to the title track makes you think you're listening to A1A. There are 2 songs on here that sound like they are actually one song; "If It All Falls Down" and "No Plane on Sunday" are 9 solid minutes of hot and wild caribbean fun.
score: 4 1/2 of 5 coronas

Good aspects of Floridays:
It's better than the preceding album (Last Mango) although that isn't saying much. The production is clearer and cleaner than some of the '70s albums like Havana and Changes in Latitude...
Bad aspects of Floridays:
The drums sound really weak. Listen to the first song ("I Love the Now") and last song ("You'll Never Work in Dis Bidness Again") and you'd swear they were using a drum machine. The first song and "Meet Me in Memphis" are so un-Buffett. I really hate saying this (because I'd love to like this album), but most of the songs are really bland. The only exceptions are "You'll Never..." (the only one with any hint of energy or balls) and "First Look", which is very nice, sounding like a song from the album One Particular Harbour. "If it All Falls Down" and "No Plane on Sunday" aren't too bad either, but are still a far cry from what Jimmy's capable of writing.
Summary:
A very mellow and rather bland album. If you are new to Jimmy's music and want stuff from the '80s, I'd recommend One Particular Harbour, Coconut Telegraph, Off to See the Lizard, and Feeding Frenzy. Speaking of the last one, its version of "You'll Never..." kicks the crap out the version on this album.

When I think of the most sun-bleached, icon of the beach-bum lifestyle, I think of Floridays. It has a very mellow sound to most of the album and includes some of Jimmy's saddest tunes. The album is probably in my top five favorite Buffett albums. I love Jimmy Buffett music!!!!!!!

In my opnion, Floridays ranks in the top five all time Buffett albums...right up there with Last Mango In Paris, Havanna Daydreamin', A-1-A, and White Sport Coat And A Pink Crustacean. I guess I am getting older now...mellowing out.
Just out of curiousity, Captain Morgan, how old are you?

Picked up Floridays thsi weekend in the discount bin (if 10 phins can be considered a discount)this weekend. The only reason I considered adding to my collection of LP's and CD's is never having heard or recall hearing, "Meet Me in Memphis" and had to check it out. Could not stop playing the the first four cuts over and over and must have done this phifty times. That was till I found the segue of "If it all falls down..into "No Plane On Sunday"...UNPHINN..IN
Beliavable. If you don't own it..get it!

Recently was in Aruba, and picked up a tee shirt at a beach shop with the saying on the back "NO PLANE ON SUNDAY - MAYBE ONE COME MONDAY" .... Shows a parrott with his suitcase packed, and Jimmy laying in the hammock with his plane parked next to him. I must have played that song 100 times in the 2 weeks i have been home.

Many people don't seem to like this album, but it's quickly become one of my favorites. "I Love the Now" is one of the best songs, in my opinion, that Jimmy's ever written. The more you listen to this album, the more it will grow on you. Great stuff.

I hope that all the greedy bastards in the world
Come back as lobsters.
You know that life at the bottom of the food chain
Suits them well.
I think that all of the evil people of the world
Come back as horseflies,
They want one last bite before they're sent to hell.
