Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer band will be appearing on NBC's "Today Show" as a part of the Summer Concert Series. The show will air on Friday; June 25, 2004.

An earlier post indicated that when JB appears on the Today show he blows of Jones Beach (JB).

I hope this is not true because I would like to see him there this summer as part of the Mish goes off to college tour. If you are reading this, and I'm sure you are, please do the right thing and come to the only venue in the USA that had the forethought to match your initials. What's possibly cooler than JB@JB?

Since 1998 Jimmy has played Jones Beach only in even numbered years. The years he skipped the beach, 1999, 2001 and 2003, he was on the Today Show. Since the Today Show concert series began in 1996 JB's never played the Beach and Rockefeller Plaza the same year.

Brother I live on the Wantagh- Seaford border, correct me if I err but JB hasn't blown off Jones Beach two years in a row. I saw him there back in 2002 with Jane and a great 8/25? anniversary fireworks. The nite Ron Delsner lit up the sky. Probably not all that got lit up that nite.

I can remember seeing JB @ JB 1993-1998, 2000 and 2002 and a couple of times in the late 80's. Between about 1989 and 1992 he may have skipped a year or 2, I'm not sure about that, but I don't remember him skipping Jones Beach 2 years in a row.

The beach is a tough call at this point.my reasons are simple,he's playing stadiums this year.jones beach holds close 15,000 which correct me if i'm wrong is the smallest venue he plays.i would rather him play south hampton all for the sea again.

I also remember at last year's Today Show concert Katie Couric announced that it was Jimmy's 8th or 9th Today Show appearance. I remember being surprised by that, but there you have it. So I'm sure he's overlapped Jones Beach and Today Show before.

JB shouldn't change channels or venues. The initials, the history; hell it's 10 minutes from my house and I gotta be his number one fan in Wantagh/Seaford. If I was visiting him every summer in Sag Harbor do you think I'd miss a rotation?

All seriousness aside, it's not all about money- Jones Beach is the LI venue and it's been loyal for 20 plus years at non-subsidized prices.

I'm predicting a show.

Goodman i completly agree with you!i just think that jimmy is changing his format around and i don't think he's partial to playing the beach anymore.i have no evidence to back this up other then his skipping it every other year.but i will say this,1 show is not going to be enough especially on labor day weekend.my fear is he'll do 2 shows in pittsburgh because its a bigger venue.its really weird that he doesn't play new york every year considering how large a market it is for him.and for the record i thougth the 2002 show was weak compared to what he's done prior to and after that concert.

I remember hearing Katie say that too. He may have been on that many times over the years, but the Today Show didn't start having a musical guest every Friday until 1996. JB's only been on 3 times since then. When I said he's never played Jones Beach and Rockefeller Plaza the same year I meant since '96. Sorry for the confusion.
