Supergroup set for debut tour

After more than a year filled with tryouts, name changes, speculation, occasional soundtrack contributions, run-ins with the law and more speculation, Velvet Revolver are poised for their arrival this summer, with a debut album and a U.S. tour.

The group -- singer Scott Weiland along with former Guns n' Roses members Slash (guitar), Duff McKagan (bass) and Matt Sorum (drums), as well as guitarist David Kushner -- has lined up fifteen dates that kick off on May 13th in St. Louis. Velvet Revolver will then make their way to the East Coast, before wrapping things up with two hometown shows in Los Angeles on June 8th and 9th.

The first night at L.A.'s Wiltern Theater, will mark the release of Velvet Revolver's debut, Contraband, the first taste of which, the single "Slither," has already made its way to radio. The group shot a video for the song with director Kevin Kerslake (Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers) that will premiere on MTV2's Makes a Video on April 27th.

Velvet Revolver will hit the road with just one show under their belt. The group played L.A.'s Wiltern Theater in early 2003, before getting to work on Contraband. But according to Slash, the band was already a tight unit. "That was the first time I'd ever seen Scott perform," he told Rolling Stone. "I knew I liked his voice, but when we got on stage together that spontaneous chemistry sealed the deal on this whole collaboration."

As exclusively revealed here last week, Velvet Revolver will kick off its first North American tour May 13 in St. Louis, now that frontman Scott Weiland has been cleared to hit the road. The former Stone Temple Pilots frontman has spent the past several months in a court-ordered drug rehabilitation center after pleading no contest last year to heroin possession.

The 15-date trek will run through a June 8-9 stand in Los Angeles and will visit clubs and theaters. Velvet Revolver will be out in advance of its debut album, "Contraband," due June 8 from RCA. The video for first single "Slither" premieres April 27 on MTV2.

As for what fans can expect from the band in a live setting, guitarist Slash promises a host of tracks from "Contraband" in addition to "a little bit more Guns [N' Roses] and STP than just one song a piece, and a couple of covers. [We'll do] whatever we can to make a really good, punchy set and express ourselves as openly and as uninhibitedly as possible."

Velvet Revolver's lone show to date was last June at Los Angeles' El Rey Theatre.

Here are Velvet Revolver's tour dates:

May 13: St. Louis (Pageant)
May 14: Kansas City, Mo. (Memorial Hall)
May 15: Minneapolis (Quest)
May 19: Chicago (Riviera)
May 20: Detroit (TBA)
May 21: Toronto (Kool Haus)
May 26: New York (Roseland)
May 27: Washington, D.C. (9:30 Club)
May 28: Philadelphia (Electric Factory)
May 29: Boston (TBA)
June 4: Portland, Ore. (Roseland)
June 5: Seattle (Moore Theatre)
June 7: San Francisco (Warfield)
June 8-9: Los Angeles (Wiltern Theatre)
