Supergroup set for debut tour
After more than a year filled with tryouts, name changes, speculation, occasional soundtrack contributions, run-ins with the law and more speculation, Velvet Revolver are poised for their arrival this summer, with a debut album and a U.S. tour.
The group -- singer Scott Weiland along with former Guns n' Roses members Slash (guitar), Duff McKagan (bass) and Matt Sorum (drums), as well as guitarist David Kushner -- has lined up fifteen dates that kick off on May 13th in St. Louis. Velvet Revolver will then make their way to the East Coast, before wrapping things up with two hometown shows in Los Angeles on June 8th and 9th.
The first night at L.A.'s Wiltern Theater, will mark the release of Velvet Revolver's debut, Contraband, the first taste of which, the single "Slither," has already made its way to radio. The group shot a video for the song with director Kevin Kerslake (Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers) that will premiere on MTV2's Makes a Video on April 27th.
Velvet Revolver will hit the road with just one show under their belt. The group played L.A.'s Wiltern Theater in early 2003, before getting to work on Contraband. But according to Slash, the band was already a tight unit. "That was the first time I'd ever seen Scott perform," he told Rolling Stone. "I knew I liked his voice, but when we got on stage together that spontaneous chemistry sealed the deal on this whole collaboration."
Velvet Revolver tour dates:
5/13: St. Louis, Pageant
5/14: Kansas City, Memorial Hall
5/15: Minneapolis, Quest
5/19: Chicago, The Riviera
5/20: Detroit, TBA
5/21: Toronto, Kool Haus
5/26: New York, Roseland
5/27: Washington, DC, 9:30 Club
5/28: Philadelphia, Electric Factory
5/29: Boston, TBA
6/4: Portland, OR, Roseland
6/5: Seattle, Moore Theater
