How do you find the closest beach?

Post by flipflops »

I'm a little far inland and looking for tips on how to find the closest beach to me. When I say closest I mean minimal travel time. Trying to find a place to just scoot to on the weekend that doesn't take me forever to get there. Maybe some of you have some suggestions. What's the closest beach from Atlanta?

Well for me - I go a couple hundred meters up the road, turn left, another couple hundred metres and I am there 8) 8) 8) 8)

From Atlanta - I would head EAST and keep going!

Georgia and South Carolina both have some OK beaches if you want to drive.

But if you hop on a plane and 45 minutes SW of Atlanta is Pensacola and some of the most beautiful white beaches in the US. From Pensacola, to Navarre Beach (see my post), to Fort Walton Beach past Panama City used to be called the Miracle Strip because of the white sands. This area is about 6 hours from Atlanta by car but worth the trip if you ask me.

I kinda remember being in Pensacola one night .... but then, I was on a tour full of 18 - 35 yo aussies .... so a lot of "blurred memories" - but the beach was nice enough - no surf .... but nice sand etc.

Ice Hockey there was fun tho!

If I knew that, they would not be blurred! It usually starts in the Hotel on a Contiki tour .. and downhill from there...

I also have the same problem with Orlando and St Augustine 8)

all I remember in Orlando is Waffle house, a pay phone and rolling down a ditch ....

this was not a standard thing - just a temporary state of mind, after we went to a bar that had Buffett karaoke songs, and I had to get myself in to that state to get up there and sing ..... as there is no such thing in australia ... this was waaaaaaay before I got online and knew I was "not alone" :D

Around here the tourists (shoobies) drive up and say to us locals, hey where's the beach. Mind you, we live on a island that is like 20 miles long, all beach and like 3 miles across.
I walk out my front door and go down 3 houses to the beach.
