Captain Tony's

After the Tampa show me and a friend drove down to Key West.
We went back to Captain Tony's for a few cold ones and some photo ops only to find that they have painted the bathroom walls white.
The barmaid said the health dept made them do it although I don't understand what's so dirty about writing on the walls.
Seems like if your toilets and sinks are clean that's all that should matters.
Hopefully someone will add the words the old man said back to the wall.
Hopefully it's not parrothead backlash

However I finally found Shrimpboat Sound!!
We must have walked by it a few times before we realized where it was.

Noooooooo!!!!!!!!!

I think they re-paint them every couple years to make the health people happy...I noticed when I "went down to Capt. Tonys to get out of the heat" in December that there were a few shades of paint on the wall. And all the signings were new. :-?

CAPT. TONY IS ONE OF MY 4 HEROS!!!!!!! :P :D :D :D :D

Yeah Captain Tony's is great.
I also stopped at a great place on Marathon about a mile before the Seven Mile Bridge that is now in my top five island bars.
It's called Porky's and is a run down joint, just like they should be.

Also finally hit the Blue Heaven and that place is not anything like I expected but was everything I wanted.

while on the tours of margaritaville tour we learned people used to be hanged on the tree located in the center of Captain Tony's and that the women's restroom was used to store the bodies!!

The business cards that are up are grandfathered. Fire Marshall told them a while back to not let any more get put up, but the ones that are up there can stay.

Bathroom has been repainted a few times since 88 that I know of.

Saw on the local news this morning that Town Council will begin handing out fines to the topless waitress joints. It is agains city ordinance. However, on the news they flashed file footage of KW and showed Cpt Tony's for a few seconds.
I thought it was strange.

I think they might repaint the walls so there's room for more people to write on them.

And God help us if the fire marshall makes them take the bras down.

Actually, I put my latest business card up in Capt. Tony's this past July. They no longer hand you a staple gun to affix it the wall or wherever (like they used to) but the bartender said you can stick 'em up wherever you can find a spot.
I stapled my first one up in there during the summer of '87, but I once read an interview with the Captain in which he said he gets them cleaned out once a year or so before the high season begins and more throngs (or thongs?) come into the place... 8)

Key West=Morris' Nightmare (sometimes) matching belts and shoes>>>This way :(

The changes from my first visit, '84ish to my last '92 were pretty dramatic. I am almost afraid to go back now (but I will)

Sex shows and topless bars outlawed, next thing ya know they will outlaw public urination and vomitting :pirate:

Let's get Tony elected Mayor again. Then they will leave the place alone for sure....

or we'll pick up our beers, chairs and tables and move down to City hall and drink from there...

=)
