Rip off tickets sellers getting numbers off of boards

Post by OceanCityGirl »

I just got a call from a guy looking to sell me tickets. He claimed to have gotten my number from a friend on these boards. He said he did PR for Buffett and happened to have some extra tix. They were 2nd row for $175. a piece. It was tempting, but, imagine this, I received the exact same call last year. So I tried to ask him a couple of questions and he said he had to go and he'd call me back. It just didn't feel right. I remember last year or the year before a guy doing this and ripping a bunch of people off for alot of money. Anybody else get this call? Any thoughts guys?

Run away...It's a scam...If I had the time I'd search for the thread that talked about the same scam last year.

pretty much what I figured. I knew I remembered it from before. He's changed it a bit since last year though. Last year he wanted you to Western Union the money. Now he's willing to send the tix COD. But you won't know what you paid for til you fork over the money and then open the package.
I knew it sounded like a rip-off but after I hung up I started thinking what if.... What if it was for real and I turned it down. It sure would s***. Stupid Jerk.

Unfortunately, it's a fact of life these days.
Just to refresh my own memory, I browsed through the BN "rules' for ticket exchanges and found this:

Warning: DO NOT send Cash, checks, or money orders in the mail and expect the other person to be honest and send you the tickets. Also DO NOT use Western Union, Paypal, or any other electronic method. People have fallen victim to a scam that has been going on.

You have to meet at a motel in Camden. Then, burn the ticket. If it has a green flame then it's fake. If the flame is orange, then it's good. But make sure you give your bank account number, credit card number, your home address and social security. Also your home number and e mail address.

Somewhere, your number and your taste of Buffett got in the wrong hands. That's what concerns me. You give up privacy once your on a mailing list somewhere. Did you ever use a broker and he or she had your number? Wonder if that info was sold.

I think one number was retrieved off this board....... but then, it's not a very good idea to post your phone number..... use email..... disposable hotmail......

Wow, I posted 4 tickets for sale. I sold one pair using paypal, which I thought was the safest way for me and the buyer. The other pair was sold using a money order. The buyer didn't want to use paypal. Just at that time I saw a banner ad for Western Union, so I suggested that. Is WU not safe?

WU is fine, so long as the seller isn't some dirtbag degenerate a$$hole scumbag who never intended on living up to his end of the deal.

I'll say this just one time.....

IF YOU ARE OFFERED BACKSTAGE PASSES IT IS A SCAM. JIMMY DOES NOT HAVE BACKSTAGE PASSES.

I know in chicago or indy there where seats on the stage just out of site. Are those for vips or just jimmy's friends?
