A lot of kenny's songs are co written, some are covers, but when it comes to the staying power of songs he performs there is reallly no question. Never gonna feel that way again, i go back, dont that make u wanna fall in love, how forever feels, keg in the closet, the good stuff, tin man, there goes my life, and young are all examples olf songs that will hold up over time, and hes still early in his career. As to the band im not too sure about, but dont go bashing the quality of his songs.

People who aren't fans of his know the "songs you know by heart" and that Jimmy wrote most of those songs. My question is: What has Kenny Chesney done to maintain a long career? Does he have any classic songs that could hold the test of time? Will a whole indusrty be built around "She Thinks My Tractor is Sexy"? I doubt it and I doubt he wrote that or many of his other "hits". I think it's great that people like him thats your choice. Listen away! But to call this guy the next Buffett, I just don't see it. I don't think Bubba can be that easily replaced and especially by a pre packaged corporate new country star. Does Kenny Chesney use his own band when he records or does he use a studio band assembled by his producer for his record label?
And which of Jimmy's songs have stood the "test of time"? No disrespect to JB but, his songs haven't exactly been hits.

The only thing Chesney is good for is after a Jimmy concert... I bet he's very talented with a broom and a mop.

The key to Jimmy's success and hte key to chesney ever acquiring that kind of success is the fan base. Jimmy's fans dont just listen to his new stuff, or just is old stuff, the eat all of it up. Despite jimmy putting out so many songs, the fans still bring up songs like nautical wheelers and the great filling station hold up, even tho tese songs werent hits by any means.

It's so freaking sad all the KC haters around here expecially since KC and Jimmy have such a good respect for each other and their music.

If you are going to state your opinion of him as and artist please do, but insulting the man in this manor really does nothing but cause the discusion to get out of hand. Name calling is usualy next.

Aside from "5 O'Clock" no, he hasn't had a song chart in a very long time but classic rock stations still play "Margaritaville" very frequently along with much of the material that makes up the Songs You Know By Heart album so to say his songs "haven't exactly been hits" is a bit off the mark. I also think it's a unfair to judge an artist on the success of Top 40 hits alone. Buffett has pretty much been always been a cult artist and that remains true to this day (which may be about to change with the new album), plus most of his concerts are sell-outs. Just because he is more known on a grassroots level is no reason to discount his influence on other artists or question his success. His albums still chart (if I'm not mistaken, Fruitcakes was in the Top Ten) but quickly drop off the charts after his fan base has purchased them.

here in Texas Bufett gets by far more airplay from Country stations than classic rock

He also gets quite a bit of airplay here in NC on country radio but it tends to be "Margaritaville" only. I was working in country radio when his last album targeted to a country audience came out (Riddles In the Sand) and it did fairly well but I don't think those songs get much airplay anymore, at least not in these parts.

Nobody's (at least I'm not) saying he hasn't influenced other artists.... I KNOW he has. And nobody said he wasn't successful... I just said I didn't think he had a lot of hits... guess it depends on what you judge success on.

That his songs are still being played on the radio, no matter the format and that he is still an artist that draws a crowd shows me the he is indeed someone who's songs have stood the test of time, hits or not.

Kenny Chesney's music has no more staying power than any of the other crap that is being force fed to people by todays country music machine.

As for JB, he is one of only a handful of artist that never needs to put out new material to sell out everywhere he goes. He could tour the rest of life based on what he done in the past.

Kenny Chesney will never be able to do that.

Get over the guy, his music sucks, he is the most unoriginal performer in the music business today, period!!

woah there pirate, forcefed by todays country machine, if ya dont want to listen, dont. I choose to listen to chresney because his music doesnt s***. There are a lot of people who could not put out any more music and be successful touring, kenny could tour for a while off of his current stuff. People love chesney's music, so to say it sucks is stupid. There is a lot of music i dont like, but i wouldnt say it sucks if its some of the biggest stuff out there right now, because that means a good amouhnt of people like it. Thats like saying thepatriots s*** just because you dont like them, they are still the best team in the nfl. Its disappointing that a jimmy fan could be so blind to a good musician. I love Jimmy but he is not going to be around for ever, and people are still going to play music, so get over it .
