good little "SHOT" of Buffett. a great car accessory. It is the perfect length to listen to on the way to and from work...my kids like it, as all their favourite songs are on it...

true PHans always bust the new kids at the shows who only have this CD and play it over and over and over in the parking lot, but you know what? We older PHans still love the songs...it is like reeses peanut butter cups on a Richard Simmons Cruise, heroin at the Betty Ford Clinic, cheerleaders in my old Dyke gym teacher's locker room....you get the picture....we know them by heart because we love them so much....

If you're not a G.O.P. then this is probably the album you started with...honestly, it was for me. There's not much to say about this one except that it's a good collection of songs from some great albums. I say "good" because there are some albums that aren't represented and they should be. The title tracks from "Havana Daydreamin'", "Coconut Telegraph", and "One Particular Harbour" should've been put on this release. The song "Who's the Blonde Stranger" would've been a nice touch also.
If this is the only disc you own then you don't want to get the book "Things You Know By Heart" by Olaf Nordstrom, because you won't fare too well. The book is an excellent test of parrothead knowledge, though there are about a dozen errors in it.
There are some other Buffett recordings from 1985 worth checking out. "Live by the Bay" the video concert, taped in Miami on a hot and humid night in '85 is a must see--especially if you've never seen Jimmy live before. Also worth hunting for is the song "Turning Around" from the movie "Summer Rental".
score--SYKBH: 4 1/2 coronas (needs more songs)
score--the book: 5 coronas
score--Live by the Bay: 5 coronas
score--Turning Around: 5 coronas

This cd is a great compilation of Jimmy songs for the beginner, but if you really want to get into buffett you have to expand your horizons. But don't get me wrong, they are timeless classics.

Ahhh, I don't think I've heard Cheeseburger enough. I think I'll listen to it one more time. And what's that other song? Something about a shaker of salt? That's a good one too, I really like that one. There are a few other good ones on here, but this Jimmy Buffett fella should put out an album like some of these songs. If I go see him live, all I'll know is Cheeseburger, Pirate, SOASOAS, Marg and some of those other ones, just like a majority of the fans at the shows that don't know Saxaphones when Bubba plays it.

What needs to be done now is a rerelease of SYKBH since more music can be put out on digital records now - update the track listing with some of the overlooked tracks from that era, namely Havana Daydramin', Coconut Telegraph, The Weather Is Here and Growing Older, among others.
THEN, what REALLY needs to be done, is another compilation of tracks from Somewhere Over China to Off To See The Lizard. That frees up the 90s with the six albums and all of their best tracks, and include the Margaritaville compilations tracks.

My first buffett CD! Your not a buffett fan if you don't have this CD! I never listen to it anymore, the albums are better!

There's a cd even better then that, if you love all those old classics as most phans and PH's do. It's a British import with (4) additional tunes. Going by memory, the extras are as follows: Banana Rep./ Jolly Mon/Last Mango & another I can't recall this minute. The cd cover is a very colorful picture of JB strumming his accoustic axe in a hammock. I believe it's the same photo as the cassette version of SYKBH, as opposed to the plain yellow with red lettered cd pkg. Great for background tunes at a party or BBQ, when everyone there isn't a true PH.

I must be losin' it. The name of the cd is All The Great Hits. On the cover JB is standing with a solid body, a volcano in the background. The bonus tracks are Last Mango/Banana Rep./Stars Fell on Ala./Chanson Pour Les Petits Enfants. Other then those mistakes my previous post is correct. The ole memory ain't what it used to be.

Gee...and here I thought I was a Buffett fan these past 25 years.
I don't own this one and never have....yet I still manage to know them all by heart.

As a relitively young parrothead (25 now) this is the one that started it all for me back in 1997. I picked it up before a Spring Break road trip to Florida, and absolutely fell in love with the songs, the melodies, mindset, and lifestyle. Seven years, 13 concerts, and 30+ Cd's later, I guess you could say I got hooked, and only wish I found him when I was younger than 17. I've tried hard to make up for it though!

I haven't listened to this in more than two years but this was the album that grew my phins. I love it and no matter how many more live C.D.s are released(and I hope there are dozens more) this one will always be my favorite.

Same here, really no need to own it if you have all the original albums. And unlike so many, this was
not my introduction to Buffett (not that there's anything the matter with that).

I have it as a result of a gift from someone who knew that I liked Jimmy Buffett's music but didn't realize that I had all original LPs and CDs and thus didn't need it. It's an okay place to start but I feel like it's rather limited in terms of how many new CDs have come out since it's release. In someways I think Meet me in Margaritaville is a better one to start with now.

Except for those sh*tty remakes he put on there, I'd agree.

SYKBH is a good primer to the PH lifestyle and Jimmy's sound...
but we all know there is just so much more...
I'd go with Boats, Ballads & Bars, and You Had To Be There as really definitive collections

That IS a joke right? It must be, it's about Jimmy Buffett in 1985 and that horrible song. Do yourselves a favour if you haven't already - do NOT hunt around for it. It's horrible and you'll regret it.
