I wouldnt stay ANYWHERE near that area!!! well unless crack whores and pimps are your thing.. Airport area is pretty close and a good bit better.

Crack whores? hmm .... imagine --- a concert venue in a crappy part of town .... BUT GOOD TO KNOW

(may explain why my searches online only showed the nearest hotels as "airport" locations)
I don't know that anyone has ever figured out why they put Lakewood down there. Maybe to be close to the airport? It certainly is not a "central" location. I'm waiting for another big venue on the north side. Gwinnett Civic Center is nice, but this area can't handle the traffic.

You said it about Gwinette. Ya know what the Southside still has a LOT of space available and is NOTHING traffic wise like anything North.

Lakewood got there because it used to have a big lake in the woods  I went to a Ga. State Fair there in the early sixties, it had the big exhibition halls on the hill, my parents told me about going there in the forties & fifties, there used to be a race track there, thrill shows on the track and in the lake, the roller coaster that was torn down in the 2nd Smokey & the Bandit" movie was there. When the ampitheater was build it just happened to be a large area of mostly abandoned land, probably at a good price and should have helped the area, but it didn't, but it's the best outdoor venue in Ga. for sight, sound, and tailgating. :pirate:

Curious, if I have good seats and take a disposable digital camara in, will I be able to take pictures without the flash? I have seen a show at Lakewood as well as indoors in Atlanta, but never had seats worthy of taking pics. Also, my husband and I will be driving in from Nashville for the show and plan to take Marta to the venue. This means we won't be able to bring the party with us per say. Anybody willing to allow extras to crash their tailgate?

Also, if you don't have hotels yet, my hubby is a travel agent. He has gotten very good at planning Buffett trips. However, I banned from suggesting Chicago shows, as Tinley Park is actually closer to the prison than Chicago. The hour on the train and 3 mile hike cost me dearly as did the cab ride back to Chicago. PM me if you need his contact info.

HiFi has the standard statement of no cameras, coolers, etc. on their website but if you can sneak the camera in and use it without the flash while the security folks aren't looking, more power to ya!

You're welcome at our tailgate! We'll have our nametags on as well. 8)

ok, I received some bad news just a few minutes ago. My grandfather is not expected to live through the weekend. I am leaving sometime in the next day or two to head up to Michigan to be with family. Wish I could be in Atlanta, but family always comes first. I have four lawn tickets for sale and are asking for only 36.00 a piece for them. if anyone is interested please PM me ASAP so we can arrange something. have a great time everyone, and please pray for my family.
