Here's the scoop I got from OSU Athletics Guest Services...

I didn't make the rules, I'm just passing along what they sent me.

Parking:
• There will be no parking prior to 3 pm [UPDATED - AGAIN: The venue is now saying 2 pm if you call them. Guest services says the activities will begin at 3 - the lots are open at 2] on the lots adjacent to the Schottenstein Center/Value City Arena. They are asking concertgoers to not arrive until 2 pm. OSU police will ask people to leave.
• For those with RVs, early parking is available (prior to noon) in the Buckeye 1 lot. Overflow parking for RVs is in the South Riverbank Lot, along the Olentangy just south of Lane Avenue. Any RVs parking in lots other than those mentioned will be asked to move.
• For all other patrons, OSU will be providing shuttles to and from the arena. Service will be provided to OSU parking lots only.
• Additional parking, other than Value City Arena, is available at Ohio Stadium, St. John Arena and in some administrative lots (these should be marked).
• Parking is FREE. Shuttles are FREE.

Grilling/Tailgating:
• Grilling will be allowed on Schottenstein Center/Value City Arena open surface lots.
• NO grilling in parking garages. Its illegal and you will be subject to fines.
• Open containers are ILLEGAL. The OSU Police will be patrolling the lots heavily. Those who are familiar with OSU football games know the last two seasons have brought a big crackdown against open containers and alcohol. (I inferred from the conversation they will issue tickets to and/or arrest violators)

Official Pre-Show Parties:
There will be two official parties - The Buckeye Parrothead Club and OSU.
• For the Buckeye Parrothead Club event, visit http://www.buckeyeparrotheadclub.com/events.htm.
• OSU will kick off their party at 3 pm on the Southwest Plaza of the Schottenstein Center. There will be a steel drum band at 4. Beverages (including Corona) and food will be available for a nominal fee. Official tour merchandise will also be available.

There are two "happenings" around the Value City Arena on Saturday. There is an "on sale" for American Idol 3 at the Value City Arena box office at 10 am. In addition, there is a walk for charity all around campus beginning at 8 am. Be cognizant of those goings-on.

For those of you not familiar with the area in and around Value City Arena, I put together this visual guide along with a map (some of you have seent his already):

Indeed they are saying 2.

You know what that means???

They don't know their ass from a hole in the ground.

Anyway, 20,000 Parrotheads vs. 100 OSU cops. Anyone want to place bets on who will win that one?

Yeah, that's the second one I have listed there (I think). Its on the southwest corner of the plaza. It sounds cool - beer and food (for a nominal fee, of course) plus a steel drum band. Excellent!

Hey Matt,

I figured out why they opened the lots an hour early...

They're giving me time to set up my video cameras and you time to set up your "special" race.

And the HIFOS has an indoor pool even if the weather isn't good! We can just move the party!

I just checked and there are still tickets available for the Columbus show. We could get into that whole thing again why Jimmy is doing 3 shows in Ohio, but I will keep it to myself. :-?

Well, keep in mind he only did one show in Ohio last year. And, the tickets you are seeing on TM right now are those probably just being released by the promoter, venue, et al.

You will see tickets available for every other venue come available a day or two before the show - so its not just Ohio. I suspect there are even some extras from Fenway just waiting to be released.

I'm confused... can you park at the Schott's lot before 2pm? The first post in this thread seems to infer that you could park at 11AM if you wanted to. However, CartMill's post seems to state that there will be absolutely NO parking prior to either 2 or 3 PM. Anyone know for sure?

I talked to the Guest Services Manager of OSU and he told me exactly what you see in the post. The lots are not gated. So technically you could pull into them tonight during the Shania Twain concert if you wanted to.

However, he said police and/or security will be asking people to leave if they enter the lots before a certain time. Yesterday he told me 3. Today the venue is saying 2.

I was simply passing info along from OSU. Take it for what its worth.

So in other words, no one knows.

And BTW, someone mentioned on one of the other threads that the HIFOS had rooms open up, those are gone now.

UPDATE:

I just called guest services again to confirm what I was told yesterday and to let them know what Matt and I were told today by the people answering the phone at the venue's box office.

The OSU pre-party starts at 3 pm. That's when they feel people should arrive. The lots will be open one hour prior, hence 2 pm which is what the venue is telling people.

I never listened to the ophical OSU rules when I was a student, so no reason to start now.
