OK...for some reason, I just read all 9 pages of this thread. What I saw are people getting defensive over their "right" to smoke something illegal.

Personally, I couldn't care less if you smoke at shows. Provided that when I ask you to please not do it around my keet, you respect that and stop. I don't smoke anything other than cigarettes, but that doesn't mean I never did. My boyfriend smokes it, as do most of my friends. Doesn't bother me usually - I don't like the smell of it, but a lot of people don't care for the smell of Marlboros. Fair enough, eh?

However, having read the posts, seems to me that more people either partake or are tolerant of those who choose to partake at a show (assuming those who are smoking are respectful to those who are not). So, even though there are more people who choose not to smoke at a show, the majority of people at a show do not have a problem with it...
Exactly....

been there done that

Makes no difference to me. Been there, done that. You just need to respect the people around you. As for you totally ruining the concert for them.....they need to get out more...and WHO could RUIN a Buffett concert anyway??!!

Ok, I was going to keep my mouth shut, but I'm a grouch today.
You smoked during an indoor show, breaking state and federal laws (regardless of how stupid a law is, a law is a law), in addition to posted signs about not smoking, and your panties are in a bunch because the people in front of you got snotty after the show was over?!! Mayhaps they aren't the only ones that should lighten up. If you're going to do something illegal, and therefore probably offensive to someone, you have to be prepared for them to think you're insensitive.
But never underestimate the power of a gentle "Sweetie, I'm so sorry, but this is really making my eyes/lungs burn/giving me a rash, would you mind please putting it out or stepping away?" It's all about asking nicely, most people aren't inherently jerks, and if you're polite, they will be too.

I agree Coconuts, if someone politely asks me to put it out I would. If it was bothering someone so much than why would they wait 3 hrs to say something about it? I just assume(maybe i shouldnt) that because I am at a concert its ok to smoke, and yeah its breaking the law but so isnt drinking in public and you dont hear anyone saying that tailigating bothers them.

This was my 8th show and I have never had such good seats before. Also, being in further out sections of venues, I have never seen a problem with sparking a little dubby if the feeling moves you.
That changed tues night. I don't know if we just got unlucky to sit by a bunch of A-holes or if all of the lower level seats are now bought up by a bunch of yuppies or what. But at my friend sparked the dube and we all smoked it and at the end of the show those people in front of us told us that we totally ruined there whole evening because of it. Then one guy almost wanted to start a fight with my friend.
Is it me or who thinks that these people are at least over reacting and I say should expect to encounter and be able to deal with such a small thing (in my eyes) and chill out.
I mean JB himself on several recordings that I have heard has commented on stage about some of the sweet smells pouring up from the audience.......and he seems all right with it.
How funny....what you deem as "a small thing" is illegal...yet the people in front of you are "A-Holes" for not appreciating the smoking......
If I had done the same thing, the first thing I would have said was "Well, thanks for at least being cool about it and not calling security on my law-breaking ass."
Respect is a two way street, bro (and I'm still p*** that the guy smoking next to me at Starlake last year did not offer me any

Some of the posts I've seen here strike me as being a bit on the rude side as well (especially the one threatening physical violence on someone). Maybe someone wants to sit a Buffett show or maybe because of some kind of medical condition they have to. It is being equally respectful to them if they don't want to stand, they don't have to, it's all about common courtesy. Yes, it's a concert but they may have a perfectly good reason for their behavior.
It's a totally different scenario but I attend a lot of acoustic house concerts where the bands play without any amplification at all and it's expected for everyone to be quiet. I wonder how some of the concert nazis I've seen post in here would handle being in that situation.

You got me mojo's...
ColdWaterConch I agree that this guys should be glad security didnt come but I just dont know why these people didnt say anything when it first started, if it bothers you that much than why wait the whole show to say something about it?

JahFin, I think it is implied that at a Buffett concerty most people will standing up dancing. I went to an Eagles cocnert and for the most part we sat the whole time. I wouldnt expect people to be loud and dancing at a small acoustic show like the ones you mentioned just like I would expect to see many people sitting down and being quiet at a Buffett show.
