Less Than Kind Washington Article Hammers Parrotheads

Post by cartmill72 »

An article entitled "Don't Call Us Carnies" from yesterday's Daily News Online (Longview, Washington) is less than kind to Parrotheads. Essentially, the article (can't really tell if its fact or fiction) is about a couple of guys who work part-time at the Clark County Amphitheatre hawking band merchandise.

Here are some lowlights of the article.

"James Taylor fans were large and XL. Patrons of Chicago, ZZ Top, and Jimmy Buffett tended toward XL and XXL."

"On the other hand, Larry and I were the recipients of several nasty comments from Jimmy Buffett aficionados, most related to the prices of our wares. Talk to Jimmy if you think the Aloha shirt is exorbitant at $65."

"Typically, the beverage concession sells no hard liquor, only beer and wine. But for Buffett, they made an exception. Take 18,000 fans, add tequila, and you have yourself a recipe for Hammered Parrothead. Larry reminds me that, as former high school teachers, we've dealt with people far more obnoxious than concert fans, but the night with Buffett pushed the envelope. Even the ZZ Top-Ted Nugent mix of bikers and redneck rockers couldn't rival the Parrotheads when it came to drunkenness and attitudinal disorder. Okay, maybe not all 18,000 of the Buffett worshipers were blitzed and rude; I suppose a conservative estimate would put the number at somewhere around 15,000."

This runs counter to most people I've ever encountered at a Buffett concert (and I'm always sober!).

Shows what they know.

Perhaps they'd waive their fees for the night then the venue can drop its cut of the profit. Bet that would lower the merch prices.

Hammered Parrothead.....sounds like an excellent name for a drink. Something fruity, blended, with lots of booze.

Sounds like guys who were jealous about missing out on the phun that night.....I guarantee you the venue doesn't feel that way about parrotheads....otherwise, why would they make the exception to sell tequila for this "obnoxious group"?

I went to the website for the Clark County Amphitheatre and found there email....its info@clarkcountyamp.com. I think I'll send them an email informing them one of their employees are trashing some of their customers.

Don't know if it will make any difference....but I'm guessing the venue doesn't want anything done which may jeopardize future concerts there by Jimmy.
