Country music?
Before you answer, define "country music".....is it the steel guitar and fiddle of vintage country, or the southern rock fusion with folks like Travis Tritt? Or maybe the too-acoustic-for-top-40 sound of lots of artists who got pegged into country.
IMHO, one of the best aspects of JB's music is that it usually transcends other genres, even to the point of creating its own genre...what I have heard called "down island music". Throw in a six string guitar, a harmonica, steel drums, steel guitar, bongo drums....and you get a great gumbo.
As far as Kenny Chesney...anybody that makes the top 40 with Buffett-style music is only going to help increase interest in JB's albums....and recruit a few more parrotheads to the phlock.
"He said son you got to be commercial
If you want to turn the people on.
And I said turning on the people
Now that's a beautiful place to be
But if I spend my time makin' memorable rhyme
Well who's gonna turn on me?"
