I hate to say this, but this album is very disappointing. It contains none of the great acoustic styled melodies from the 70's albums, none of the occasional rocking songs, nor any of the later Caribbean influences. Jimmy sounds burnt out and bored. This is the only Buffett album I've bought so far that I'd not recommend. In fact, I'm planning to trade my copy for something else. Uhhhhh!

What is your problem Mr. Anonymous.I rate this album 4 out of 5 stars. The title cut alone is worth the ten bucks. There are only two songs on it that I don't like that much:
1.PLEASE BYPASS THIS HEART
2.EVERYBODY'S ON THE RUN
I have always loved the song LAST MANGO IN PARIS and I love it even more now that I've been to Captain Tony's Saloon. And yes the words the old man said were written on the dingy restroom wall. ~~^~^^FINZ UP!

This album is lame! The only good song is "Frank and Lola" and it's basically just a redoing of "Pencil Thin Mustache" with different lyrics.

Frank and Lola, Jolly Mon Sing, and Beyond the End are good, though not great.

Please Bypass this Heart and Gypsies in the Palace are way too country (although the latter song is sort of funny). The rest of the songs just don't live up to Jimmy's standards. Too many other songwriters putting their fingers in the musical cookie jar.

"It was somewhere past Dark-30 as I went back to the head..." is one of the best lines in any song anywhere.

"Last Mango in Paris" is a record with a few ups and downs, and until recently was slightly difficult to listen to. It manages to maintain some of the sound from "Riddles" in "Everybody's on the Run", "The Perfect Partner", and "Please Bypass This Heart". The latter also holding on to the main theme of the previous album. The skating references and EKG in "Please Bypass This Heart" are a bit cheesy, as is the sound of Harrison Ford's whip in "Desperation Samba", but they are novelties that don't ruin the songs by being there. "Frank and Lola" a nice comical romp about married life and "Gypsies in the Palace" is a great anthem for phans of zydeco music. "Jolly Mon Sing" is another song for a nighttime serinade to the kids and "Last Mango in Paris" is as great a title track as "One Particular Harbour" is for that album.

score: 4 1/2 of 5 coronas

I bought this album when it first came out on vinyl. It's a very good album, different from his earlier works, but still VERY good. It has LAST MANGOE IN PARIS, a tribute to Captain Tony Tarracino and his life. How could you not like that?

This was actually the first Buffett album I owned. Although I had heard other songs,it was my first. I guess it was good enough, I have been to over 20 concerts, bought a thousand t-shirts and lived my life like the song. I will give it the thumbs up!!!!!

I know I've already told my youth opinion. However, today I'me takin' a trip down "memory lane", and listin to what got me started 2 years ago on a rainy night, well after 12 p.m(night), in a cramped up car, on my way home from Inianapolis. I just cant explain how much I love this album. It is easily my favorite. I really dont know what my life would be like without Buffett, which this is responsible for starting me on. So out of over 25 cd's of mine, even though this is one of the 2 of my dad's(but I say their mine, cuz' I'me da only PH in my house), this is NUMBER ONE, NEUMRO UNO, DA' BEST, FIRST PLACE, THE ULTIMITE WINNER, AND #1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just picked it up yesterday at Margaritaville.....After all the bad press it has gotten, I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. My favorite track is "Everybody's On the Run". "Gypsies In The Palace" reminds of a time when we borrowed a friend's beach house one weekend, and, well, you know the rest of the story. "Desperation Samba", "LMIP", and "Jolly Mon Sing" are also great.

I think my initial post was too harsh calling this CD "weak".

I'm still not too fond of Bypass this Heart, ( I refer to it as Bypass this Song), but the rest are pretty key. After closely listening to the lyrics of Beyond the End, I have a new respect for it, and some of my favorites on it are LMIP, If the Phone Doesn,t Ring, Its Me, and the keet love to sing Jolly Mon together!!!
