Mile Marker Travel guide for The Keys

I remember awhile back, like 4 years ago, that someone had a website of all the interesting places to stop once you entered The Keys. He listed each bar/site of interest by mile marker. Does anyone know of that site as we are driving to KW on Friday. Thanks

Thanks for those site. I couldn't remember the name of Alabama Jack's. Has anyone ever stopped there and lived to tell about it?

I had forgotten about these 3....The Seven Mile Grill offers good food and drink and just across the highway at MM32 on a side road is another bar/grill called the No Name Pub. At MM20 is Mangrove Mama's, a cool bar with excellent food served in a tropical setting.

Alabama Jack's is a pretty funky place...you feel like you're in the middle of the Everglades, running drugs and dodging the law. People were friendly enough, conch fritters were good, and the beer was cold.
Best part about the experience is you've just made it to the Keys and it's a great way to start the trip South, with a cold Corona and some grub. Puts you in a tropical kind of mood.

what he said.... AJ's has the best conch fritters I've tasted. It's a must, IMHO.....

Paradise Island makes for a nice restroom/rumrunner/food break, with a great view.

If I were at MM20, I'd press on and eat at Hog's Breath....

As for AJs I guess it is a must now, as all the times we were in the Keys, I NEVER ate conch fritters. So if I am going to eat them, this will be the place.

If you're there at the right time, you might even see Kathy Lee Gifford show up and sing. She's been known to do it before. She and Frank have a place at the Ocean Reef Club, which is to the left a few miles down after you get to the light at the east end of Card Sound Road.

I plan on stopping at AJ's this year on the drive down. Hopefully the timing will be right and Des & Mr. D. will be able to join us

I've seen the pictures...

You can see all sorts at Alabama Jack's. Remember, the Ocean Reef Club and Key Largo Anglers' Club are just down the road on the other side of the Card Sound Bridge. It's not unusual to see a Rolls Royce parked next to an F150 at Alabama Jack's. The conch fritters at Alabama Jack's are *much* better than the conch fritters at the Ocean Reef Club (though I must admit that the best key lime pie I've ever had is at the ORC)

If I ever walked in and saw that ridiculous b**** there I'd probably go throw up on her or something similar on purpose! What a disappointment that the owner (whose name slipped my mind) even let's her sing there.

Don't miss Lorelei's at Isla Morada either! Great rum runners and do let them add the extra splash of rum on top..

Went to Alabama Jack's.....great place. Saw my first manatee as it swam slowly by while on the deck. I had no idea those beings were so huge! Good conch fritters, but they need to cut back on the dough, just a little tiny bitty bit. Coldest beer on the planet. They must put it in the freezer! That link Des gave----I printed it out and took it with me when we drove down A1A in Feb.....VERY helpful. Just wish I could've visited every single bar and site that is listed. I have a feeling that even though we stopped several places, I missed a lot.

She's been known to pop in there. I get to Jack's for lunch a few days a month as it's about 14 miles from my house. I just turn my head and cringe when she's there.....it's all I can do without ramming an empty bottle up her giggy.

List needs some updating. Don't be surprised if you walk into a place and it's now a redneck topless joint. There are a couple places on that list that have "changed a little" since it was first put out. Just don't go running in there with your kids if you can't see inside first!

The Fish House in Key Largo is real nice. They just opened the place next door called Encore, has a great deck out back worth checking out. Craigs in Islamorada just past Jimmy Johnson's boat at Tavernier Creek Marina has a great fish sandwich.

Wow, so many tips, so little time to eat. Maybe we will have to leave some of these places for our way out on July 1st.

Hey Chalks... I sent your web address to my mother-in-law. She's talking about chartering a flight for my father-in-law. They live over at the Angler's Club half the year and he was making noises about buying an Albatross a couple of years ago. She convinced him that chartering was a better idea, and I think she wants to surprise him. I don't know when she's going to call, but she seemed excited when I told her I had sent the link.

She said she's flown Chalk's in the past. She's a Palm Beach kid from way back. She was under the impression that you guys weren't in business anymore and was *tickled* to find out that you were still around.

We recently ran regular charters for a family that has a place in Great Harbour up in the Berry Islands right at the edge of the Great Bahama Bank just south of Abaco.

Green Turle still around...always had the best food around...of course its been many years ago
