Baby room Theme - Parakeets anyone???

Post by BuffettGirl »

Hi all! I am a long time lurker and devoted parrothead, although I have been registered for a while I don't usually post.

Found out recently that hubby & I are having a 'keet in January '05! Have any of you done Buffett-themed baby rooms - maybe "baby parakeets", cartoon sharks & manatees, anything like that???

I'd love some ideas & some suggestions as to where to buy such items!

Fins Up!

Congratulations! I just had a baby boy back on February 2nd. Time flies I tell ya.

Our sons room is done in an ocean-night scene. We have the Del-Mar crib set at BabiesRUs. Here is a link: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... e-pictures

It's also a good theme for if you don't know if you're going to have a girl or boy. We really like it.

Just another piece of unsolicited advice: If you register for gifts, you might as well do it at Target because if you register at BabiesRUs people will just go to Target anyway.

Feel free to send me a PM if you want any recommendations on stuff I use for my kiddo. There's a bunch of bogus stuff out there that is not very useful (IMO) and I'd be happy to help.

Can't wait to meet your new keet!

We have a bunch of that stuff from keet #1

I wanted to go with a ocean theme but the wife decided on a jungle theme instead. I painted this for Lake's room:

try this link... www.surferbedding.com they have some cool stuff for the keets. I painted one wall of my son's bedroom in a palmtree theme to match bedding my wife picked up at pottery barn kids.

My wife is expecting our first on July 26 and we also discussed a "Buffett theme". We ended up doing an under the sea theme. We have a close friend who does murals. She painted a mermaid with clown and angel fish over the crib and other fish throughout the room. We also went with an ocean themed crib set:

Sea Life 6 Piece Crib Set

I plan to do a virtual tour of the room when my wife is completely happy with furniture arrangement! :D

Jacadi is a little higher end budget but has a cute "under the sea" theme with lobsters, octopuses, crabs and mermaids. It's what I want to do if I ever have a keet (someday I will...)

This post is to all the parents who suggested Pottery Barn for kids....

Would any of you all like to adopt me? I've been looking at Pottery Barn sheets, but when you get to the deep-pocket King size they get a little pricey.

When my boys moved out of the nursery into their "big boy room" I did a nautical theme with stencil sail boats and lighthouses.

The bottom half of the room I painted 2 tones of blue - quite by mistake. The first blue we picked was too light when it dried. I had to go over it with a darker blue later. I discovered that if I went over the second coat lightly with a rag, it would remove a little of the wet, darker paint and reveal the lighter blue. I did it in a wave motion along the wall and it looks pretty cool. From mistakes sometimes come good luck.

This is what I am using too! I am due on July 3 and we did not find out what if it's a boy or a girl, so we are waiting until after the baby is born to buy either the blue island pattern or the pink island pattern and decorate the nursery. It is so cute! And to Land Shark, my sister got me a gift card to use there, so that's how I can afford it!

my parakeet (Finnegan) was born on 6-3-04! his room is done in what we call "tropical whimsy' style. we didn't know what the sex of the baby was...the theme started with a brightly colored parrot rug, lots of parrot accessories, a hawaiian shirt cabinet, and evolved into an awesome space. we even brought the baby home from the hospital in a hawiian shirt, and we played buffett in the delivery room!!!

we can't wait 'til he's bigger, then we can do "finn to the left...finn to the right..." :P

May I suggest Lizards? There are some really cute reptiles out there right now.

I am very pro-lizard since I just finished a baby quilt with an ENORMOUS lizard on it. For my brother's surprize package who will arrive in December. He is planning painted palm trees in the nursery and we are looking into sending the tiki hut for kids. His wife wants more traditional pastels. (gee that's another baby quilt to make...)

Lets all hum for him:

' :P :P .... and a short nine months later, there's no way of concealing, that permanent reminder of a temporary feeling :P '

Congrats Bftgirl! My wife & I actually did a Buffett room for Keet # 1 (have 3 now). We did parrots, fish, etc, but probably the nicest things we did, which are probably even the nicest things we have in the house...is make color copies of a couple of pictures from the book Jollymon. I'm sure we violated some copyright laws, but we had the amtted & framed & are the nicest looking pieces we have in the house!

When we had our twin girls ... I did an ocean scene -- using a sponging technique ... used a base coat of a lighter blue and sponged a slightly darker blue on the top half adding in puffy clouds with white ... lower half I sponged over with a darker blue almost using a more rolled ragging technique to create a more reflective underwater look to the colors ... seperated with a Wallpaper border of cresting waves (paint colors were matched to this border to create a seemless transition with the border ... then applied a bunch of wallpaper "cut-outs" of starfish, coral, dolphins, sea turtle, tropical fish, shells etc.

I'll see if I cant link a pic here later on to show you 8) 8) 8)
