A Pirate Looks at Fifty is good. It is about the trip he took around the caribean on his fiftieth birthday.
If you are looking for fiction Where is Joe Merchant is good.

I second the "Tales from M'Ville". It was one of the few books that I literally did not put down until it was finished. Unfortunately, you'll have to wait until the new book comes out to continue the story.

Not sure how old you are, but "Pirate looks at 50" is a great story about escaping reality and heading for the islands.

"Where is Joe Merchant" is a bit of an adventure. It is a series of intertwined stories, but it takes a while to put the whole story together.

I really liked Where Is Joe Merchant best, but all of his books are good.

John MacDonald is a good author when you're done with Buffett's books. His Travis McGee books are great summer reads (and best read in order!)

Read Tales from Margaritaville and then Don't Stop the Carnival. I didn't get into APL@50 for some reason. But maybe you should wait for the movie before you read Joe Merchant

The Tom Corcoran KW books are great too.

Met RWW in HOU

Post by Mango Picker »

I met Randy a few wks ago at a book signing in Houson's Murder By The Book. MBTB backed Randy when he first started publishing.

Randy is a really neat guy, interesting and likeable bloke. Weaves some reality into his characters and books.

Check out each of their websites... :o ... some have msg boards.

James W is on his regularly. :D

I have read all of Jimmy's (& DSTC + the play in Atlantis) and all of these guys' books... Always ready for more!

I definitely preferred "Tales From Margaritaville" over "Where is Joe Merchant?" The short story format seemed to work better for the subject matter & Jimmy's writing style.

"A Pirate Looks at Fifty" is good too, but it's not really entertaining in the same way as the fiction books. It's more reflective, introspective, and reads like an elaborate travel journal (which it essentially is).

I'd start with "Tales from Margaritaville." It's like reading a book full of his songs.

Don't Stop the Carnival was great. And think I'll start a re-read of Pirate Looks at 50.

Given my user name, I would be remiss if I did not suggest "The Curse of Lono" by Hunter Thompson. It is out of print, but there are always one or two on ebay for sale. In the alternative, I would be happy to loan you one of mine. The art work by Ralph Steadman is extraordinary (see below).

LB, you also might want to check out the "What are you reading" thread in the Off Topic Section. It's a few pages long of users describing what they're reading and what they think of it.
