Album Poll #4: Living and Dying in 3/4 Time

Post by Parrot Monkey »

Because I depart for my 4 day vacation down island tommorow, I thaught I'd start the next album poll 2 days early.

This is for Jimmy's altogether 4th album and 2nd commerical release, Living and Dying in 3/4 Time. It's the album that gave birth to Jimmy's first hit, Come Monday.

"The Wino and I Know" gets in with a slight nod over "The Ballad of Spider John".

Brahma Fear - that was my favorite song when I was living on my dad's boat in college.
It was a pleasure and a hell of an evening
Truly was our night to win
But the authorities insist on my leaving
Take care my American friend

Gotta be Wino and I Know eventhough all of them are great.

"Just like a fool when those sweet goodies cool; I'll eat till I eat way too much."

"Living on things that excite me...be it pastry, lobster or love."

Never can remember the lyrics to songs. Guess those are quoted right. Tell me if I'm wrong.

I picked Saxophones... maybe because the first version of Saxophones I ever heard was on Meet Me in Margaritaville... and this version is different, and I'm not tired of it yet... I dunno..
I also like The Wino and I Know... thats my #2 of the cd.
God's Own Drunk, Pencil Thin Mustache and Ballad of Spider John round up my Top 5 for this cd.

I have heard all of these songs live (via Bootlegs/RadioMargaritaville) except for Ballad of Spider John... anyone know if he's ever done that one live? And If he's ever not done a song live? (I.E. He's never performed X song live.)

I went with West Nashville as well. 3/4 time is my all time favorite album. Of every album ever made in the history of music recording. It was given to me for Christmas one year by my parents. The year was 1977, I was 12.

I can honestly say that I LOVE each song on that record.

I've heard every song off of this album live except Brand New Country Star and i'm sure it was played sometime in '74 during his many acoustic shows. As for Balled of Spider John, the last time it was played was East Hampton 2000. Jimmy does a very good job on it as well.

Although there are some fine lyrics on Wino (esp the "lobster or love" line), I voted Pencil-Thin just because it's such an upbeat, smile-inducing song. :D

Such a tough choice. I love the "Saxophones", but the newer version with horns. "Wino and I know"; great song. But I went with "God's Own Drunk" even though I prefer the live version on "You Had To Be There"
