Conversation with Bobby Labonte on NASCAR.com

Post by brahmafear »

Here's the part of the conversation with Bobby Labonte in regards to Jimmy Buffett:
Q: On a more serious note, what's the best Jimmy Buffet song?

Labonte: Tin Cup Chalice.

Q: What makes that so good?

Labonte: It's just laid-back. It's get a Corona Light and sit back on the beach and listen to it, I guess.

Q: Have you been to a Buffet concert lately? Have you seen him the last six months or something?

Labonte: No, I haven't. Our schedule hasn't really permitted us to go a whole lot. I saw him at Homestead when he was there visiting. But I haven't been to a concert. Sometimes we have flown to concerns. Terry and I have rented helicopters and gone down and try to scalp tickets -- and couldn't get in. We bought T-shirts and left.

My wife and I and more groups of people flew to places to watch him and had tickets and limousines. We landed our plane right beside his. "This is the only way you can go to a concert right here. This is all right."

But we haven't been able to go lately. When you're kids are growing up, the 25 percent time you had to go do things like dwindles away.

Great to see that he's a parrothead. Thanks for sharing.

I have to wonder something though: With all the money he makes, how could he not afford to buy tickets from scalpers?

Bobby Labonte has always seemed like a cool guy. I see an article every once and a while just about him being a parrothead.

Thanks for the post. While Bobby Labonte is a great NASCAR driver with a busy schedule, he shows that he's really not that much different than us (albeit his adjusted income has a few more zeros added on). His statement about having young kids consuming 25% of the time is really true. Hell, I could have alot more fun if I didn't care what my kids saw me do. Anybody heard the "Tiki Tour in Las Vegas" Cd where Buffett says on "somebody stick some earplugs in those children's ears" on WDWGDS.

NASCAR would increase viewership and popularity by having Jimmy sing the National Anthem at Daytona or Homestead - or anywhere for that matter.

Think about it.... Alot of NASCAR fans are also Parrottheads.

Yeah but Jimmy's a staunch democrat... NASCAR will never let someone active in the democratic party sing the national anthem...

I was at Winston-Salem, NC in 2001 for the Winston Cup preview. Basicly is an all day meet and greet autograph session and car show, use to be in Janurary. When they introduced Bobby Labonte as the 2000 champion, they did so by playinf "Fins". That was the coolest thing I ever heard and saw. To bad my friends that were there Don't get it. :(

Not only am I a Gamecock living on the left coast, I'm Cingular. I was never that involved with NASCAR until RCR and Cingular hooked up. So I'd have to say Robby Gordon is the man! 8) Although after I heard Bobby Labonte was a parrothead he's my second fav (along with Jr., Jimmie, Kevin, and Ryan). I must say that last Sunday at Infineon was tough for Robby but through it all he never quit (may make a JB song someday) 8) . I got the chance to visit with him and his crew before the race. That was the coolest thing beside going to a JB concert I have ever been able to be part of. Gas on Robby and Fins up!!!!!! 8) 8) 8) :) :) :P :P 8)
