First Time in Cincinnati - where to stay and what to expect?

Posted: July 15, 2004 4:11 pm
by Fins2Lft_Fins2Rt
I managed to get 4 tickets to the 8/31 show in Cincinnati. I'm a well seasoned JB concert goer (will be my 16th show), but I've never been to Cincinnati before to see him. In fact, I've never even been to Cincinnati. Where should I stay? Assuming that the good places are already booked up, but hoping to still find someplace where fellow parrotheads will be. Also, is there anything unique about Cincinnati shows that I should be aware of? Need help...

I like Applebees which would be right outside your hotel. It is right on the river and has a beautiful view of the cincy side. You picked a good place to stay. Their brunch there is great! Very nice hotel. Anther nice place, albeit a little more upscale, is the Waterfront. Good food there. It would be just a little west of your hotel right on the water... imagine that... It used to be a hangout for Bengal players but I am not sure if it so much anymore. Boomer and Collinswoth used to own the place I believe. Howl at the Moon is also much fun on the Levee

The Comfort Inn is in Newport. Applebees is in Covington, 1 Madison Avenue -- on the same barge as The Yuccatan Liquior Stand, Sleepout Louies and Fridays. You will need to take route 8 across the Licking River into Covington. The Waterfront is a nice place, it is in west Covington at 14 Pete Rose Pier. You'll also find the South Beach Grill on PPR.
Don't look for "Howl at the Moon" it has been gone couple years.

Not far from the Comfort Inn in Newport, at "Newport on the Levee" there is a purple pedestrian bridge "Purple People Brige" that will take you into Ohio where you can treat yourself in "Montgomery Inn Ribs King" 601 E Pete Rose Way - (513) 852-6733 - MI Ribs is a favorite and many stars indulge themselves while in town. To get to MI Ribs after you step off the PP Bridge you will enter Sawyer Point (park) follow the pathway to some of the best ribs in town. Dining at MI Ribs King will give you an awesome view of the Kentucky side.

Enjoy

Yipee and thank you!!

Easy mistake, I have lived in Cincinnati all my life and still get Newport and Covington confused....they are not so very different, except Newport has always been livelier. :)

Embasy Suites is a awesome hotel and as you said right on the river. It does has a fantastic view of Cincinnati and is located next my favorite bridge the "Suspension Bridge". The Suspension Bridge connects Cincy and Covington Kentucky not far from the Paul Brown Stadium (Bengals Territory).

Folks, talk about an awsome experience walk across the Suspension Bridge (our blue bridge) a night. All the lights on both sides of the river makes for some great photo ops.

B4Ever, will you be coming in for the concert?

wish I could make it. Being a Tuesday it will be very tough to get away from work. Wouldn't be so bad if it was for one day but I know I would never make it to work the next day either if you know what I mean. Tuesdays really stink. I am trying to keep my options open though. Maybe if I really get lucky and things go my way at work...

Sometime I just think of how much fun I could have if I just didn't have that little 4 letter word called work.

As for the suspension bridge I always walk across that to go the Bengals game. I am a big Bengals fan. Eat brunch at Applebees and walk across the bridge to enjoy the festivities.

LOL, actually I think its Newport that is known for ther AE. Anyway it's the Newport district that gets the news time...lol. Newport says, they have as "they call it "cleaned it up some", I am not sure if that is because they have to keep their "G"s on, they closed some places down or made the existing places classier. Maybe some of guys from here in town can help you out with this one.

Hope things change for you at work so you can make the Jimmy connection.

Ranging from one of the largest-ever, flesh-eating land animals--Tyrannosaurus, to the plant-eating--Stegosaurus, to the crocodile-like, fish-eating creature--Baryonyx, 20 life-size, animatronic dinosaurs will make the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden their summer home.

Guests will take a self-guided tour through this prehistoric world and learn all about these amazing creatures which were built by a team of artists, engineers and computer experts. Educational elements for kids are also available including a ‘Dino Dig’ where young paleontologists can search for dinosaur fossils. And for some real seat-rocking fun, don't miss Dino Island--the Ride! in the Zoo's wild motion theater.

Newport Aquarium
01/01/04 - 12/31/06
A state-of-the-art facility, Newport Aquarium brings to the banks of the Ohio River some of the world's most advanced, creative technology -- not to mention amazing animals -- all designed to take you around the globe, visiting each continent, every ocean and hundreds of waterways in between.

And what a way to travel: 200 feet of clear underwater tunnels. See-through floors. Walk-around exhibits. A touch pool and one of the nation's largest open-air shark viewing exhibits. No one before has combined, with such mesmerizing flare, the magic of entertainment and the power of education.

Hidden Treasures of the Rainforest Islands

The Newport Aquarium's new "immersion exhibit" (open May 2004), HIDDEN TREASURES OF THE RAINFOREST ISLANDS, takes visitors into the rich and complex habitat of small-clawed Asian river otters, Burmese pythons, lories and lorikeets.

You'll feel like you just stepped into an Indonesian rainforest--misty humid air surrounds you and natural light shines in through glass panels and skylights illuminating the animals' extraordinary habitats. Interactive activities give kids and adults a chance to connect with the exhibit's animals and even feed beautiful free-flying birds throughout the exhibit.

Baby Gators at Newport Aquarium
A group of 12-inch long baby alligators from St. Augustine, Florida will be on display as visitors chart their growth to an eventual and amazing 15 feet long! The gators are expected to grow about a foot a year as they grow from harmless "baby gators" into adult-size predator animals.

~~~~~~~~~~
Open 365 days a year, see the Newport Aquarium website for hours of operation, admission rates and complete exhibit information.
