Toby Keith is a Democrat?!?!?!

I think i mentioned this once before on this board, but no one believed me. This is very interesting:
HE'S NOT AFRAID TO SPEAK OUT FOR HIS COUNTRY
From the Boston Globe:
Author(s): Steve Morse, Globe Staff Date: July 23, 2004 Page: C1 Section: Living
Short-tempered country star Toby Keith doesn't back down from anything. He has feuded with the Dixie Chicks, quarreled with ABC anchorman Peter Jennings, stood up for rednecks, bashed the Taliban, and furthered his hawk credentials by taking a swipe at terrorists in the radio hit, "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)." Sample verse: "This big dog will fight when you rattle his cage/ And you'll be sorry that you messed with the U.S. of A."
But Keith has a confession to make. "People don't realize that I'm a registered Democrat," he says. "They automatically assume that I'm a chest-banging, war-drum-pounding Republican with my military stance."
Keith goes on to compare himself to Senator Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut: "a conservative Democrat who is sometimes embarrassed for his party."

So do/am I - although my registration is more for work purposes than anything. However, my boss is a lifetime NRA member and has gotten an A or A+ rating and an endorsement from them every time he ran so far.
The 2 really aren't mutually exclusive.

Dude, you work for a Demotard??

I have now officially lost 10% of the remaining respect I had for Frank.

Yup. As long as he keeps signing my paychecks, I don't really care what letter follows his name

Not a man of principles are you?

I'm a man of my own principles. And in this case those principles include a comfortable living, 40 hour week (no nights or weekends ever), 4 weeks vacation, and 13 paid federal holidays

Damn government employees.

I think this argument is a little unfair. I know plenty of Democrats who own guns and are NRA members. I also know many Republicans who would never own a gun and have no intrest in the NRA. I think it's too hard to label people and put them into catagories.

I didn't know there was an argument going on.

I guess I shouldn't have used the word "argument".

Maybe private citizens or state and local politicians. But a Democrat who owns guns and is an NRA member would never get anywhere in the national party the way it is now, in my opinion. (A right leaning independent who has never owned a gun, and most likely never will.)

I don't know about that. Like I said, my boss is a lifetime NRA member, and consistently gets their highest ratings - and the DNC throws tons of money into his campaign coffers every 2 years.
Also, Kerry's advertisements have been stressing the fact that he's a hunter. I'm pretty sure he's gotten somewhere in the national party, wouldn't you say?

The national Democratic party has done a pretty good job of demonizing the NRA over the last few years, you can't deny that.
Maybe the DNC gives your boss money because it wants to make sure the district can stays Democratic. And I wonder what would happen to all that DNC money if a viable Democratic opponent who wasn't an NRA member challenged him in the next election. It would be interesting to see where the money would go.
Is Kerry an NRA Member?

No argument there whatsoever.

Of course.

Same place it goes now. No way in hell either party would back a challenger over an incumbent in a Primary election. Especially when that incumbent is a proven vote getter in a district that is heavily controlled by the opposing party.

No idea. But you said that no Democrat who owns guns will go anywhere in the national party. It's pretty tough to hunt if you don't own guns.

No I didn't, this is what I said - "But a Democrat who owns guns
and is an NRA member would never get anywhere in the national party the way it is now, in my opinion." (emphasis added) You conventiently left out the second half of my statement. That's why I asked if Kerry was an NRA member.

Sadly, no longer true. "W" supported John Sununu to unseat incumbent Sen. Bob Smith here in NH, and Smith lost. Granted, Smith is all over the map on issues. His major fault was he tried to run against "W" for Pres. Add in the tight relationship between the Bush clan and the Sununus. This could only happen in a state as strongly Republican as NH. The Democratic challengers are truly irrelevant here.
As a freshman senator Sununu has been invisible. If you need something done you have to go see Sen. Judd Gregg! Good work George.
