HsvParrothead--

I didn't spend a lot of time looking around at that link...but you do bring up some very good points about non-custodial fathers. Without reading the entire article, I can't really speak to it.

However, I certainly feel for any non-custodial father with good intentions to raise his children. So often, it's the moms who are simply handed custody of the children, because usually, the moms are the primary caretakers of the children even in married relationships. I believe this is slowly changing, but I have never truly experienced it.

I can tell you from my perspective as a mother, that heaven-forbid hubby and I should divorce (makes me barf just thinking about it), it would be very hard to think about not having my kids with me as much of the time as possible. But, when I look at it from the theoretical perspective of my divorced-from-husband...it would be terribly heartbreaking to lose the time spent with my own children. From a selfish point of view, one would fight tooth and nail to keep the kids as much of the time as possible. The more rational, what-is-best-for-the-kids point of view would probably involve a more equal custody arrangement.

I can't fix the problem of child custody issues, other than to suggest to marry the right person the first time and don't get divorced. Either that, or don't procreate. This isn't intended as a direct statement to you...

Anyway...just my two cents.

OMG, I should never have gone to that site! :o :o
Little girls are a joy to behold, and if they are not interfered with or unduly influenced by popular culture, they will naturally gravitate toward things feminine and pretty.
FALSE. Totally, completely, and biologically FALSE. There is a whole large group of girls and women out there who are sexually straight, but who, from the time they were little, showed a preference for what are typically considered "male" games, toys, occupations, etc. They are typically tomboys. They love sports, and often prefer cars and trucks to dolls. They often prefer hardware stores to dress shops, and blue jeans are just fine, thank you... Others often assume they are lesbians, but they're sexually straight. However, because of some accident before birth, they have way higher-than-normal levels of testoterone (yes, boys, girls have a little testosterone, too.... but usually just a little. :D), and it causes them to be a little different from the frillier girls.

I'll climb down off my soapbox now.... but people like this who make these sweeping generalizations REALLY MAKE ME MAD!!!

In response to SGH ~ I'd like to add that that article is also a false generalization because... despite these "society influences" the article refers to and the testosterone that SGH speaks of --- sometimes girls prefer those things as well because they preferred their Daddy over Mommy ... Daddy was the fun one or caring one etc. and so they chose to spend more time with Daddy hence the influences

Make Sense??? HEll, screw it if it doesnt - I know what I mean :P

oooooo, I had to leave that site..... my finger was hovering over the "send feedback" button..... :o :o

I respect their choice to be very feminine, and dress the way they see fit, and be stay at home moms if they can and want to.

BUT DON'T TRY AND SHOVE IT DOWN MY THROAT!!!

I wonder if these ladies realize that without the "feminists" (whatever THAT means) of their grandmothers and great-grandmothers generations, they would not have the right to vote..... or the freedom to work outside the home..... or join the military (with all its many benefits).... or many, many other choices that we take for granted these days......

somebody, please, pull this soapbox out from under me and hand me a boat drink.... (ooooo, drinking in public.... that used to be a no-no for women, too..... )

WOW...after really looking throught that site...Phweeew! PSYCHO! :o

OK people just get this:

This morning, my three sons (aged 13, 11, and 9) came to greet me in my bedroom and asked to go outside to check their boats (the same boats they fashioned with Styrofoam and sticks yesterday for sailing in a mud puddle). Sleepily, I told them they could, and they raced outside in the early morning rain, delighted to find a stream leading from yesterday’s puddle down the yard to the area that we plan to make into a small pond. Before I was even out of bed, I saw the boys guiding their ships through the rivulets and into the larger ocean of the future pond. They cared nothing for the steady rain drenching their bodies. They did not give a second thought to the red Georgia mud that splashed up their legs and oozed between their toes

As I think about the innocent joy of my boys at their play, I have a heavy heart. I am very concerned about the boys and future men of this world. Too many boys are enmeshed in activities which dull their brains, consume their time, or keep them from actively learning about their world.

Care to lend me your crystal ball next time?

:)

The system is seriously messed up... trust me. It's not even the system per se but the pervasive belief at all levels of the system that men are less capable of being full-time parents than women. It's a shame really... the courts would have rathered I saw my daughter every other weekend and send a check than I actually be a part of her daughter's life on a weekly basis. Tell me that's not f***d up.

LPO, I'm confused about your post, and wonder if you misread. If the red part is a quote from the site, I think her point is the same point as yours... She's saying that what the boys are doing IS normal behavior, and that too many boys aren't out playing but are (I'm extrapolating, here) parked in front of a tv or video game rather than outside doing manly-boy things like playing with boats.

I don't know all that much about Carrie Nation. Was she a feminist (an advocate for women's rights, by my definition, and a different thing from a "radical feminist") or was she more of a prohibition activist?

the system is *hosed*..... it was set up to deal with men who walked out on their families, and hasn't changed with the times to consider that even if the marriage doesn't work out, men can be perfectly good parents who WANT to be in their children's lives. :-? :-?

Hmmm Ok well the way it came off to me was that she was not happy with them out wasting their time and whatnot. It was really not too clear and I guess I perceived it a different wasy. But i still hold my ground

Ya, but if you read the whole article at that site, she thinks this kind of play is good (as do I) but she freaks at the thought of things like skateboarding or snowboarding or anything like that. Little boys should play in the yard where mummy can watch them, I suppose, and she also says doing things like skateboarding and snowboarding are too tiring...seriously! She also thinks it's just grand that her little darlings go out in the rain bareheaded but flips at the thought of her daughter going out without boots and an umbrella 'cause she'll melt in the rain or something, I guess....

There's another article in there somewhere about the dangers of sending girls to school and university because it creates a cycle where she gets up early in the morning and feels like she has to do something - you can't make this stuff up!

They are VERY anti-female higher education. Wouldn't want the girls to get any ideas of their own, I guess.

At first, it's all laughable, but then you realize how serious they are and that some girls are being raised like this. Scares the hell out of me. I hope those poor girls can escape before it's too late.
