I think I could see what Isle Reef was gettin at despite the aweful wording. The democratic party has become more liberal, partly because Clinton seems to of become the designated leader of the party. This isn't to say that it is "splitting our country apart" because its not. It's people from both sides who aren't tolerant to other views and therefore outcast them from there lives, unfortunately it seems more and more people are not very tolerant these days. I guess it's because politicians form both sides have tried to make it sound like if the other guy wins, the world is going to end. If you don't hear both sides you can not possibly make an unbiased decision on where you stand. There are 3 sides to every political discussion, the left, the right, and the truth.

This election (or any for that matter) should not be about someone's personal animosity towards a person or party, but rather about which person or party someone feels is best to lead the country and why. Just because someone thinks "A" is a better choice doesn't mean that "B" is an a**hole. Folks who resort to that sort of simplistic black/white mentality *ARE* the problem in this country.
Frankly anyone who has taken the time to arrive at an informed decision should be able to support their decision (and respond to opposing opinions) without having to delve into either name calling or the sort of vague generalizations that often substitute for legitimate opinion.
Now please do explain why you think the democratic party has become more liberal and, while you're on the topic, what liberal means to you. I'm curious to hear how folks define it in this day and age versus it's actual meaning.

In respnse to the question on how I would define a liberal I see it this way. If I had to break down politicians into four groups there would be Liberal democrat(think ted kennedy), moderate democrats(zell miller), moderate republicans(john mccain), and conservative republicans(mit romney). Now of course there is the extreme left which would like to see the u.s. become a socialist state, and the extreme right which would like to see the kkk rule, but there are very few of them in the big scheme of things so we can just throw them in the other category. I think if your really look at liberalism you will see it as basically breaking down the our unalienable rights and truely enforcing them. Enforcing peoples freedoms at all costs. (I know by saying enforcing It can sound bad, but what I mean by it is enforcing by fighting for these rights) To get into a few specific views that seemed to be shared by most liberals, I see a Liberal democrat as one who is big into funding of government programs.(for example health care, schooling) Into defense cuts. Huge on the free will of the people.(i.e. for gay marriages and pro choice on abortion issues) Liberals often want the extend the seperation of church in state by doing such things as taking "under god" out of the pledge allegiance.
I am sorry if any of this came out offensive, but its just the way I see it, and I was just answering the question to the best of my knowledge. I can tend to lean right at times so did my best to be nice.

I dunno... that doesn't stike me as particularly hateful. I think there's legitimately a percentage of Amercians who think that Bush's foreign and domestic policies are detrimental to the country (since they are a departure from most previous administrations, including his father's) and that the only way to prevent the further enactment of these policies is to defeat Bush.LIPH wrote:Like all the people at the Democratic convention who were wearing ABB stickers, Anyone But Bush?
(I'm not sure that I would express that view at a convention for the other guy though - that's just bad PR to say "Vote for our guy because he's not the other guy")
What I find non-constructive are folks whose entire argument against why to vote for their guy is because the other guy is an idiot...

I didn't mean the ABB stickers were hateful, it was more a response to this from your previous post: "Folks who resort to that sort of simplistic black/white mentality *ARE* the problem in this country." I always thought the whole idea of an election was to vote FOR your candidate, not AGAINST the other guy. As far fetched as it may be, if Al Sharpton had been the Democratic nominee I wonder how many of those people with the ABB stickers would still feel that way.

I guess I see the election as doing what's best for the country, but I agree with you when it comes to the democrats... THEY should at least be behind their guy, not just against the other guy.
