Plans Filed For Complex At Merriweather Post Pavilion
POSTED: 10:07 AM EDT August 4, 2004

COLUMBIA, Md. -- The Rouse Company is going forward with plans to build offices and stores on land that includes the parking area for Columbia's Merriweather Post Pavilion.

The company has filed the paperwork for the designation of the land. The commercial complex will 800,000 square feet of office space and 400,000 square feet of retail space.

Rouse wants to sell the amphitheater and believes it should be converted to a year-around enclosed concert hall.

I loved Merriweather. My best concert experiences were there. The seats in the orchestra section were so close to the stage you could shake Jimmy's hand when he came to the edge of the stage.

Nissan is fun, but there's nothing like being able to drive right done the road and see Jimmy in your own backyard.

I think money is the only think most people in Columbia think about.

I'll miss Merriweather, too...

Unfortunately, the Howard County Poleece had been cracking down on tailgating for Bubba's past few performances. I remember back in "the day" when Merriweather RULED for tailgating pre-Buffett! I had friends that went to Merriweather just FOR the tailgating - then left when Bubba started!

The main problem I had with Merriweather was that the acoustics s**'D!

But I will miss that thirty mile drive to see Bubba...

What say we all chip in and buy the pavilion to keep Merriweather alive!!!

(Can I get an "Amen"?)

For us Baltimore-Marylanders, I hope that they build a new venue around here somewhere. The Nissan drive is worth it for Jimmy, but it is one hell of a hike!
