Does Jimmy ever play "Door Number Three" anymore?

Post by MikeJW »

Only have been a big JB fan for about five years, ever so often I put in the Live By the Bay video, and the first song is Door Number Three. It's kind of a catchy song, I'm kind of hooked on it now. I looked in the set lists from like the last seven years on this site and I have never seen the song once. What do longtime JB fans thing of this song? Does he ever play it? Any chance he'll resurrect it in Chicago in tribute to Steve Goodman?

I think he last played it during some of the shows on the Carnival tour in late 1998.

I have seen Jimmy sing it while playing in the Chicago area (Tinley Park) as Steve Goodman was from Chicago. As I remember, it was generally during an acoustic set. I'm disappointed when JB does not do one of Steve's songs, as a tribute to him. I would love to see him do, "A Dying Cub Fan's Last Request". Maybe during the seventh inning stretch at Wrigley Field this year.......?

I was thinking the same thing. It would fit perfectly in the spot where he plays "Great Filling Station Holdup" (2nd song of show) with just JB and Mac.

I'd love to see a show of nothing but pre-1980 music. Don't get me wrong, I love a lot of his post-1980 stuff too. Just think it would be kinda different. Call it the Nostalgia Tour or something. But come to think of it, all his tours contain elements of it so it's all good.

I know that he played it at one of the Carnival shows in late 1998, but I'm not sure which one. I want to say it was Orlando.

I don't think a "pre-1980" tour would be necessary because people already accuse Buffett of being a nostalgia act since he rarely focuses on much new material, at least not like he used to in his heyday in the 70s when you would get to hear a great deal of a new album in concert. I think the current "Live In.." series has definitely played a big part in shaking up the setlists so maybe there's hope for hearing "Door Number 3" yet.

Today is Monty Hall's 83rd Birthday.
Tomorrow he plays in Chicago.
The Steve Goodman connection is Chicago.
