Finally! I shook Buffett's hand...

Well, its taken many years and many shows, but tonight in Cincinnati I finally had the opportunity to shake Jimmy Buffett's hand.

A seating screw up landed my wife and I in the first row (up from fourth). We were off to the side a bit, right beside Charleston (the bodyguard).

After the first encore, Buffett walked over and shook a few people's hands - mine included. Obviously we weren't going to stand there and have a conversation, but it was cool nonetheless. I yelled "congratulations on the CMA nominations." He laughed and said "thank you."

Its not the same as getting to meet him and have a lengthy conversation. And I didn't make him talk to anyone on my cell phone like other here have done ;-) . But still, I consider myself very lucky. He handed the lady next to my wife his flip flops and he tossed picks to a few other people. My wife got his set list.

I have to share this, too. Sitting behind us was a person in a wheelchair who had severe development problems. However, it was obvious the music was making him happy and he was having a great time. Charleston noticed this and grabbed several souvenirs for him - a t-shirt (signed?) and a guitar pick (perhaps a few other items). It was very cool of him to do that. He also pointed the young man out to Buffett who then gave him a "thumbs up" and a wink. Very cool.

Oh yeah...and then there was a concert. I was happy with the number of LTC songs he performed tonight - 7 or 8 I think, including Boats To Build, Coast Of Carolina, Someone I Used To Love, Simply Complicated with a missed verse...the list goes on. Finally, Pete Mayer sustained an injury on stage. Someone threw a large (36" or larger) beach ball on stage. It hit Mayer's mic stand which in turn hit him in the head. He had a very visible bump and appeared to even bleed a bit.
