Did you have fun in Pittsburgh?

Post by MelliJellyBean »

Everyone else have fun?

Overall I had a great time and the show was awesome...but a little too much drama during the tailgate, do you beleive that?

Unrully Pitt fans who dont know how to conduct themselves at a Buffett tailgate. Feel bad for my friend, who decided he would wear a WVU shirt :(
Someone also backed up into my boyfriends truck so we had to deal with that and then someone started a fight as well. Im really disappointed in some of the people at the Pittsburgh tailgate....but I met plenty of cool people too, but ya know, a few bad apples...

I was very excited that Jimmy played Scarlet Begonias and Southern Cross back to back.

How was everyone elses day?

Melli..... sorry to hear you had some problems yesterday. It's not usually that way at Starlake. I did see someone that had a huge flagpole with a WVU flag flying from it.......was that you? I had a GREAT time....still fighting off the effects tho...ya know....fuzzy feeling head and all. LOL Now all I need is to find someone that recorded the show, and is willing to share with us.

Pittsburgh was my first time. What a great show! Some observations from a first-timer:

1) The traffic getting into and out of Burgettstown was horrible. Coming in around 4pm, it was lined up for a couple of miles. There was an accident on 22/30 after the show which also tied things up.

2) The tailgate AFTER the show was almost as good as the one beforehand! Chatted with a couple of great folks -- hi to Becky and Barry, hope you made it back to northwestern PA safe and sound!

3) The show itself was great - Jimmy really knows how to play to the crowd (specifically mentioning lawn people, Canadians, etc.). I know he played for over two hours, but it was so good it seemed too short!

4) Some folks in the crowd are apparently NOT there to see Jimmy. Two guys in front of us spent most of the showing either going out for beer or talking to each other across their girlfriends. What they were talking about, I haven't a clue, but it wasn't the show.

Looking forward to next year!

We just got home from Pittsburgh. The concert was incredible, Jimmy and the Reefers were hittin' on all 8 cylinders! Mac and Nadira did a lot more singing, just a really good vibe from all the Reefers.

Sorry you guys had a bad time tailgating. We got stuck in traffic and barely made it to the show in time. Actually saw a bus sideswipe a car in the parking queue!?! Didn't seem to be a lot of direction in the lanes going into the show. Traffic is the only thing I have to complain about, the show was awesome!

:( :( Unfortunately, I had a really BAD first outing since having Kyle!!
Started with missing Route 60 off the turnpike and going 40 miles out of our way on the way to Pittsburgh. Then my friend was stuck in traffic trying to meet us at the hotel to go to the concert together. Then we got stuck in the incoming concert traffic (Melli, how do you get to the back way??). Then we were stuck in the accident traffic on 22/30 on the way home. And worst of all, we missed meeting up with all the BNers that were there!! I am glad I got to see my old pal Cousin Colin though even if it was for only a little bit!
We didn't even get into the lot until about 8 and since Ticketbastard somehow got my tickets lost in the mail, I had to go to Will Call to pick them up, so I wasn't able to do any tailgating (well, ok, I might have whipped up some mango banana daiquiris in the car and drank them while we were stuck in traffic, but that's just not the same!). Oh, and the 6th person who was supposed to buy my ticket didn't show up, so I got stuck with a ticket!
So I would say all of this put me in a foul mood and the concert was just not as enjoyable! Hopefully next year will be better!

What a completely fabulous night!!! other than the hour it took to park and the 2 hours it took to get on i-79 it was the best i've seen so far! a lil disappointed he didnt play coastal confessions...but CUBAN CRIME OF PASSION was a very nice touch! The parking lot of way too much fun as usual...ran into a teacher of mine so that was a little weird but hilarious...got home at 4:30 and went to school @ 6 ... hungover on the 3rd day of school...

CANT WAIT TILL NEXT YEAR!

We had a great time! Great tailgating for us, shared plenty of jello shots and I hope we got some to you all. We were in the paved lot and also carrying "smoking" giant margaritas (gotta love dry ice!). Loved Purple Rain/WDWGDAS. We only met up with nice folks. We Pittsburghers/Penn Staters were next to WVU fans and swaped jello shots with Cleveland folks. Counting down till next year!

Excellent time as well. I think the pool party at Country Inn & Suites is becoming an annual.

I had a great summer and I was really happy to see if ever so briefly Lizzy and Julie again.

Buckeye...take Rt. 18 North from Washington PA and it takes you right into Burgettstown. It's pretty easy to find.

My crew had a great time.

We usually get to Starlake at 1:30 and are in line then. This year, the cops would not let anyone in line at that time and said that they were not opening until 4. We went back onto the access road, and there must have been about 100 cars parked on the road at that time. They were even turning away buses. (Note: I hope that this does not portend bad things for the future...it would really be bad if they did not open until 4, as so many people get there so early and the traffic is so bad as it is.)

Around 2:15, the cops gave up because there was nowhere else for the people to go. They started lining people up around then...we were about 50th in line, and I looked behind us 2 minutes later and there was a line as far as you could see.

Grill was fired up by 2:45. I was shitfaced by 3:30.....

The ride home was the longest I've ever had....traffic was seriously backed up on 22/30 due to that accident.

Didn't see any drama in the lot...just a good time by all.

Had a great time at Star Lake (don't know if I'll ever be able to call it Post-Gazette Pavilion...)

I actually met three BNers there:

RednekkPH (and fiance)
Everybodys Cousin n Miami
LIPH

We got into the pavilion around 1:30 and parked the Orca II (the band bus) at the "Second Stage" and found out the union guys who were providing sound wouldn't show up for another hour or so, so we went on "walkabout".

I managed to find Frank & Colin fairly easily! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to hang out because shortly after finding them we headed back into the pavilion to start setting up. Thanks for the cheeseburger and the two jello shots, though!

While the band was setting up Doyle Grisham stopped by and ended up staying for about half an hour (for the first couple of songs). Amy Lee also stopped by on her way to the parking lot to sell her new CD "Use Me". She stopped back by again after the pavilion had opened to listen to a couple songs.

It constantly amazes me that taken out of the context of the Coral Reefer band almost no one recognizes any of the band members. Not one person recognized Amy or Doyle while they were standing around listening to Captain Quint play. Amy even made a comment about having to review her resume "fourteen years playing with Buffett and no one knows who I am". She didn't have much success selling her CDs in the parking lot.

I'd noticed a rather distinguished looking Parrot Head listening to Captain Quint play. About the time the band started winding down, the lead singer (Jim Bowley) mentioned "Margarita Will" (I forget the context) and next thing I know Larry (the distinguished looking Parrot Head) introduces himself! Didn't have much time to talk, unfortunately...

I forgot to ask, "Larry, what did you think of the band?"

I took several pictures that I'll upload when I get home tonight.

All in all, a very enjoyable time! I got a kick out of Jimmy forgetting the words to "Piece of Work". Especially because they had performed it during their sound check! Fortunately Tina & Nadirah chimed in to get him back on track.

Unforunately, we left at 10:20 so we could get the bus out ahead of the traffic so I missed Scarlet Begonias and Southern Cross...

Maybe next time I'll drive myself...

That's my story and I'm sticking to it...

Good meeting you Will. This was my 3rd trip to Star Lake and it's always a great time. I liked Captain Quint, they put on a good show.

Just now stumbling out of my weekend stupor...

Here's my list of random items:

1) First and foremost, we had a blast. The weather was great, we had a KILLER spot in the lot, and the band played a great set.

2) RednekkPH & Reefdiver managed to find us...great to see you guys again! Sounds like BuckeyeParrothead had quite a tale of woe, though. Sorry we didn't hook up, Liz!

3) You actually CAN fit 8 people in a Chevy Venture mini-van if you rip all the seats out.

4) Due to our being parked right in the corner of the lot alongside the roadway, we were able to give away all our beads and didn't have to take any home.

5) We pretty much drank all our Margaritas too. Good job, everyone!

6) When will those cops learn? Despite what you say is the "official" opening time, people are going to show up around noon. Get used to it. We will keep coming at that time and we will keep blocking the road until you open the gates. And ONE single-file lane going in???!!! What's up with that?

7) For anyone I met and don't remember meeting and for those of you I wished I could have met, I hope you all had as good a time as I did!

Starlake was great!!! Jimmy put on a good show and where we were parked, it pretty much seemed like a great tailgate scene! No issues that I noticed, and I walk around a lot. I don't know how the lots closer to the stadium were, but the upper lot was pretty good!
If the Pholks from Syracuse see this, thanks for the fruit!!!!
photo's are like pictures taken with a camera.....remember I told you that!
