HI guys, got a situation I need some input on. I got an email from ebay saying my account was suspended. I haven't used the account in a well over a month (But it was all legit, bought some old Buffett LP's, paid for them, got them, the charges posted, and I got positive feedback).
I get those paypal scam things all the time, and I know better than to click on links in emails. I went to ebay and tried to log in (no, not the link sent to me in the email, the REAL ebay) and it said my account had been suspended. So, it's really suspended, it's not a scam.
I'm pretty careful about online purchases, identity theft, ect, I think. I use paypal for most everything, cept amazon. I checked my bank account, no changes. I logged onto paypal (changed my pw) and checked the status, no activity. My cc# isn't stored on ebay, I use paypal, so I should have my ass covered there.
What do you guys think? Anyone have any experience with this? I'm trying to decide if I should be freaked out, or if this happens all the time. Does ebay sometimes make mistakes, or have I been hijacked?

I havent heard of that happening before. We have had an account with ebay for a couple years with no problems. I guess you could always start a new account, but you will lose your feedback number. I think probably the best option would be to try to contact ebay directly and ask them whats up.
I am no longer fighting my inner demons. We are on the same side now.

It's probably a spoof email.....I get them occasionally. Before you respond to it forward it to spoof@ebay.com and let them look at it. They usually respond fairly quickly and let you know whether or not it's legit.

I agree. Did they say why the acct. had been suspended?unclejohn wrote:I havent heard of that happening before. We have had an account with ebay for a couple years with no problems. When writing them, explain the evidence you have access to, and ask them for an explanation for the suspension if they did not provide one.

I had a similar exerience about 1 week ago with a seller of an auction i won. I had won 3 tickets to buffett in las vegas on 10/23. the tickets were in section L14 and I won them for $285, a pretty good deal, a couple of days later I received an emailing saying the seller's account had been suspended do to someone retrieving his information illegally. I attempted to contact the seller on several occassions with no response, I was thinking the seller complained about his account so he would not have to sell the tickets for such a low price, p.s. if anyone has 4 tickets for 10/23 let me know.

Just my $.02
Get a good anti-virus package and update it and run a scan. Then get a good malware package like spybot or adaware and run it to make sure you aren't hosting exploits on your system.
You see, if I had a keystroke logger on someone's system and wanted to steal their E-bay account I would send them a spoofed e-mail saying their account was suspended or somesuch and then yoink their info when they logged in.
One way to check when you get an e-mail purportedly from E-bay is to right click on the e-mail listed in your inbox and select "Properties" or "Options" depending on what package you use. You should either get the internet header or see a field on the window with that info there. Most of it will look like gibberish. The top line will be RECEIVED: from e-mailfromwhoever@somedomain.com
Look at the whole header. If there is any other e-mail address besides yours anywhere else in the header then most likely it is an e-mail with a spoofed address and should be considered suspect.
Good luck!

it's not a spoof email, i went directly to ebay and logged in. I know what a spoof email is, I know how they work. They send you an email saying your account will be deleted, and give you a link, but the link goes to a site DESIGNED to look like ebay/paypal but is not actually ebay/paypal. You log in, giving the spoofers your account info. I didn't click on any links, or download any files. I saw the email, and then opened a new tab in firefox, and went to ebay.com and logged in that way. Not a spoof.
I run norton anti-virus, with current defs, spybot, adaware, and zone alarm.
In the email it says I have been blocked from starting a new account, it also says that no ebay. I could prolly do it, but it doesnt' really answer my question as to what happened.
I contacted ebay immediatly after I logged into their site and saw it was not a spoof. They take 2 days to figure stuff out, meanwhile I had to chagne all my banking info on the chance my numbers had been comprimised.
