I really like this song the way Jimmy Sings it. I have only heard it on Feeding Frenzy. Is it on any other cd's and where can i get the lyrics for it?

I believe Harry Belafonte was the songwriter and original singer. Its probably on one of his CD's

The original was written by Irving Burgie - he also wrote Day-O. Both tunes were ultimately made famous by Harry Belafonte when they were pulled from the groundbreaking "Calypso" debut in the late 50s.

You can get the song on a multitude of Belafonte albums, including no less than 4 greatest hits collections and 2 live discs.

The song has been recorded by a long, long list of artists.

I echo that. I LOVE Jimmy's version. "Cowboy in the Jungle", "Banana Republics" & "Jamaica Farewell" are 1-3 on the lists of songs I have never heard(and am dying to hear) Jimmy do in person.

Ditto! I would love to hear Banana Republics live.

Previously "That's What Living Is To Me" was on that list. I was finally able to cross it off a few years back. Since then, "Banana Republics" has been #1.

I almost cried when he played Banana Republics at the Thursday show in Chicago this year. Most certainly was my favorite concert moment of my life!!

When you mention Harry Belafonte, don't forget that Coral Reefer Ralph MacDonald used to work for him. Check out Raph's bio...

At 17, Ralph was Harry's percussionist...

Couldn't agree more, Jamica Farwell, Door Number Three and Banana Republics needs to be on an entire set list for the year. How many concert years can we hear a song like Southern Cross over and over and over when we NEVER hear these?

Man, I'm with you guys. Floridays and Banana Republics are some of my favs of all time and I've never heard them live either. Never know, maybe Jimmy reads this stuff. And as for the topic Jamaica Farewell is serious classic Belafonte.

I was also fortunate enough to be in Chicago Thurs. when Jimmy sang Banana Repbulics. What an experience!!! That was worth the price of admission! It was such a heart felt song---just to watch him sing this---what an experience!

I hate to rub it in. But...I was also in Chicago when he sang it in 2002. This was was far better because it was just Jimmy and his guitar. Great moment!!!

SCORE!

Stopped by Goodwill store today to make a donation. Flipped thru the records and found CALYPSO by Harry Belafonte which of course includes JAMAICA FAIRWELL.

Both the album cover and record itself are in great shape.

Just wanted to share yet another find!

FINS UP!
