The Australian Pink Floyd Show
Anyone ever see them? They are doing a show locally, and was wondering if it was worth the $36 ticket.

I'm a big Floyd fan myself. The absolute best cover band out there is "The Machine" They're touring again the start of 2005. They are just as good, and in some ways better because they'll cover the entire catalogue. I have heard them say good things about the Australian band at the shows before, so I'd go for it.
Its a shame that they wont tour anymore. I saw them twice in '94...incredible. However, David Gilmour is releasing a solo album next year, and Roger Waters is touring the US late next year as well.

I've seen "The Machine" has done a few gigs near me. I'll hafta check them out next time. They are usually a much cheaper ticket too.CaribbnSoul wrote:I'm a big Floyd fan myself. I don't know about everyone else but I have no desire whatsoever to see a band imitate another one, particularly at $36 a pop. A Zeppelin imitation band called Zoso plays in my area very frequently and people keep recommending them but I'd rather go out and support bands that play original music. I saw Page and Plant in Atlanta in 1995, not Zeppelin by any stretch of the imagination but that's as close as I'll ever get.

a REALLLLLY godd cover band can be a good show.here in springfield we're known as the cover band capital, almost everyone is in a cover band and there is very little original music played out.Jahfin wrote:I don't know about everyone else but I have no desire whatsoever to see a band imitate another one, particularly at $36 a pop. but it does work out for some groups.i've seen staind probably a hundred times becuase they're from right down the street.i'd say they've managed to make the change over pretty well.

You're quite welcome. To answer your question: no, I haven't heard of them.rednekkPH wrote:Thank you for once again providing an answer to a question no one asked.Jahfin wrote:I don't know about everyone else but I have no desire whatsoever to see a band imitate another one, particularly at $36 a pop. One of the few good things about being "older"Jahfin wrote:I don't know about everyone else but I have no desire whatsoever to see a band imitate another one, particularly at $36 a pop. Got to see Zep in the old days. As a percussionist, I wouldn't want to see anyone attempt to imitate John Bonham on the kit. I'd be too critical..
One of the reasons I quit playing covers when I was in bands. The last band I was in only played original tunes until we got too old & too busy..
Keep America Beautiful
I don't have anything against cover bands per se because you obviously have to start some where. I've just never had the desire to see a band imitate another band by trying to dress just like them and by playing every song note for note just like they are on the records. Tribute bands are very popular these days. Hell, there's even a Dave Matthews Cover Band which has to be one of the few I'm aware that's for a band that's still in existance.3/4 Time wrote:One of the few good things about being "older"Jahfin wrote:I don't know about everyone else but I have no desire whatsoever to see a band imitate another one, particularly at $36 a pop. that's when it starts to get a little ridiculous.although it did pay off pretty damn well for that kid who was in a judas priest tribute band that ended up actually singing for priestJahfin wrote:I've just never had the desire to see a band imitate another band by trying to dress just like them .

Here in the Baltimore area I know we must have 20 different "tribute" bands(KISS, Queen, Metallica, Led Zepplin just to name a few). Most of the clubs that they play at either don't have a cover charge or have a cover charge of about $5 - $10 on regular nights. When the "tribute" bands play the cover charge is $20 and the price of the beers are about $1 more. If the cover was still only $5 - $10 I would probably go see some of them but not for twice the normal price. Ain't no cover band that good.
