Yeah, when your starting out if you don't play covers you wont make it. But there are certain musicians "I" never would "try" to cover because I couldn't do them justice. I'd rather they put there own style to the tunes like Clapton did with his recent album, Me and Mr. Johnson.Jahfin wrote:I don't have anything against cover bands per se because you obviously have to start some where. I've just never had the desire to see a band imitate another band by trying to dress just like them and by playing every song note for note just like they are on the records. Tribute bands are very popular these days. Hell, there's even a Dave Matthews Cover Band which has to be one of the few I'm aware that's for a band that's still in existance.3/4 Time wrote:One of the few good things about being "older"Jahfin wrote:I don't know about everyone else but I have no desire whatsoever to see a band imitate another one, particularly at $36 a pop. A Zeppelin imitation band called Zoso plays in my area very frequently and people keep recommending them but I'd rather go out and support bands that play original music. I saw Page and Plant in Atlanta in 1995, not Zeppelin by any stretch of the imagination but that's as close as I'll ever get.
Got to see Zep in the old days. As a percussionist, I wouldn't want to see anyone attempt to imitate John Bonham on the kit. I'd be too critical..
One of the reasons I quit playing covers when I was in bands. The last band I was in only played original tunes until we got too old & too busy..
