Driver of the No. 8 Dale Earnhardt, Inc. Budweiser Chevrolet, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., was docked 25 championship driver points and fined $10,000 for use of foul language on live network television. The slip of the tongue came after Earnhardt won the EA Sports 500 at Talladega Superspeedway this weekend.
Personally I think NASCAR is quicky transforming auto racing into one of the stupidest "sports" in the country.
Frankly I think E and the rest of the drivers should refuse to do interviews so as not to expose themselves to the chance of losing points. That will make NASCAR happy - no chance of FCC violations then....

Or, he could just tell them to "F"-off.
I didn't know you could get fined for using colorful language. I guess I'll never be a M*ther Fu*king G*d Da*med race car driver after all.
I believe it is BS too - considering the "curse word" he used is used on FX quite often. However, at least they are applying it uniformly - they rapped Johnny Sauter for a similar infraction earlier in the season. I think if they failed to issue an equal penalty to Jr., it would have been another dent in their already mangled credibility.

1.) Junior knew the rules (a Busch driver had been fined earlier this year) and he broke them. NASCAR has to be consistent. Take away the points and money.
2.) The Busch Series isn't doing the Chase for the Championship. Junior had a more significant lead over the next driver until NASCAR put the top ten within 5 points of each other. Unless a driver or team has an infraction that would affect the outcome of the race, no points should be taken away during the last 10 races.
Then again, I'm not Mike Helton and the Championship is Junior's unicorn.

Junior's young... he has a bunch of years to get a championship...
I've been of the opinion that NASCAR shouldn't legislate what drivers say in any instance... but certainly if they insist on enforcing stupid rules, the should do so with monetary fines, not points. the Busch guys shouldn't have lost them either... it's just another example of short-sightedness on the part of Brian France

KLL...you could probably shed some light on it. Is this new direction NASCAR has taken in recent years Helton's or Frances' baby? I think this is crazy...not just the FCC bs, but the rules over celebration, on and off track incidents, sponsorship crap....its crazy!!! They find a way to sponsor everything...I'm waiting for this in a telecast:
Alan: Oh Benny did you just hear that?
Benny: No, whats that Alan?
Alan: We just picked up a fart from Tony Stewarts in car mic. You know, this could have been prevented by using Beano! This in-car mic moment was brought to you by Beano, keep the gas for the car!
Ok....maybe that was a little over the top...but you get the joke. haha

As one who went to college in Daytona Beach (twice!) I've seen your average NASCAR fan. Before you get offended, I said average...not "every" or "typical" fan. I'm quite certain that whoever was watching wasn't terribly offended.
I'm with KLL on this without a doubt. Embargo anyone with a camera and a microphone for the last 10 races. See sponsorship visibility decrease on account of no interviews.
Of course the teams could have a canned statement faxed out to the press saying "This is the FedEx press embargo. We have nothing to say".
