Quick Melissa Etheridge story. I'm not really a fan and the only time I ever saw her was at the Concert For NYC that Paul McCartney organized after September 11. She came out on stage at the Garden, just her and her guitar. In the middle of the song her mic went dead. She just kept playing, the crowd picked up the tune and started singing until they brought out a new mic, then she just picked up where she left off like nothing happened. A real pro. Good thoughts headed her way.
what I really mean . . . I wish you were here

Etheridge Recovering From Cancer Surgery
Singer/songwriter Melissa Etheridge is recovering from two surgeries to treat breast cancer. Doctors removed a tumor and a few of the artist's lymph nodes, only one of which had become infected. "I still have both of my breasts and whether I will keep them is a bridge I have to cross later," Etheridge writes on her official Web site. "What an unexpected journey this is."
Etheridge says she will soon begin chemotherapy treatment. "Who knows what that will bring," she writes. Plans are also moving forward on her pilot for ABC, in which she will star as a gay woman raising the daughter of a friend with her straight male roommate.
Etheridge added she will be writing new songs to appear on an upcoming Island greatest hits album. The artist was forced to cancel several tour dates in support of her latest release, "Lucky," to accommodate cancer treatment.
"I will be back and rockin' in just a few months," she concludes.

As a LONG time fan of hers. I wish her well. I hope her experience will get her back to her old style writing and not that junk she put out on her last album "Lucky".
When they run you out of town make it look like you are leading the parade.

I like basically everything up until "Lucky". I have a lot of her obscure live stuff too. I really like her second album and probably like it best.IsleReef wrote:What are some of your favorite Melissa cd's?????? I think "Yes I Am" is one of her best............ Hands down!!!!!
Oh and I have seen her 3 times.

Etheridge in the Clear
Back after battling breast cancer, Etheridge talks to Rolling Stone
In September, Melissa Etheridge discovered a four-centimeter lump in her breast. She was rushed into surgery and has endured an intense course of chemotherapy and ongoing radiation treatment. At the Grammys on February 13th, Etheridge brought down the house with a show-stopping rendition of Janis Joplin's "Piece of My Heart." Rolling Stone checked in with Etheridge three days later.
How's your health?
I was in bed for two months. But I'm in the clear now. I'm cancer-free.
Did you go into the Grammy performance wanting to make a statement, or were you just doing your thing?
I wanted to go in and do my thing. When I got nominated for "Breathe," I was like, "Oh, that's sweet." I didn't want to go to the Grammys, but they called and said, "Look, we're doing this tribute to Janis Joplin -- will you sing 'Piece of My Heart'?" It would have killed me if I lay in bed watching somebody else sing it. So I said yes.
Did you consider covering up?
I didn't feel like hiding my bald head. I go to radiation every day, and the nurses were like, "It would be such an inspiration." I'm a little overwhelmed by the reaction. I've gotten some great letters from cancer survivors and chemo patients.
You seemed totally confident.
I was having a blast. I've sung that song for twenty years. I hadn't been onstage in months -- I'd been in bed. So when I walked out and half the audience stood up, it was a real sweet audience hug.
What's next?
I'm going to write and record two or three songs for a greatest-hits package that will be out around October. I'm just going to take it easy.

I saw her on the Grammys and also watched the interview on Dateline last Sunday. I also have a good friend currently undergoing chemo for breast cancer.
I thought Melissa Etheridge made an incredibly powerful statement in her Grammy appearance. The bald head was a shocking reminder of all she has been through, and her singing showed such strength and showed us that she still is Melissa! ANd could there have been a more perfect song for her to sing!
Kudos to her-she is showing all how to battle with courage and dignity and strength!
