Ask the business owners in West Yellowstone. Why should snowmobilers be denied access to the US National Park System?tikitatas wrote:Why would people need to snowmobile in a national park??? Aren't there other wide open spaces for that?
Why would people need to walk/hike/sight-see/camp/etc. there either? Lots of open spaces elsewhere for those activities also.tikitatas wrote:Why would people need to snowmobile in a national park??? Aren't there other wide open spaces for that?
What was the rationale beyond environment? Noise spoiling the quiet?rednekkPH wrote:Why would people need to walk/hike/sight-see/camp/etc. there either? Wacko environmentalists. Same groups that are burning ski lodges and such.tikitatas wrote:What was the rationale beyond environment? That is a big deal there. My folks live in Timmins, the snowmobile trails are laid out better than the streets.tikitatas wrote:I see now . . . just read an article. Had no idea how much of their local economy is snowmobile rental/sales based. Here in Canada, the problem is more with trespassers going off the beaten trails onto private property. All our national parks have trails pretty much!
Before we give this place the impression that all of Canada is backwater and forest, let's expalin that Canadians love their big cities, too. You just cannot beat the great outdoors in winter when there's fresh snow to zoom through, though. Right, Tommy? Same in New England as here in Nova Scotia -- we love it when it snows.PHBeerman wrote:That is a big deal there. Timmins is a big city. (By Canadian Standards) My folks have lived in much smaller ones.tikitatas wrote:Before we give this place the impression that all of Canada is backwater and forest, let's expalin that Canadians love their big cities, too. why would you need to drive your car there, arent there other areas you could do that?tikitatas wrote:Why would people need to snowmobile in a national park??? Aren't there other wide open spaces for that?
the ban was based on emissions and noise polltuon numbers taken from snowmobiles up to 20 years old.when the green groups showed those to the senators looking to stay in office they quickly banned them without even checking the accuracy of the reports.tikitatas wrote:What was the rationale beyond environment?
