Buffett Bites The Big Apple

Post by Goodman »

I've done a little bit of research, mainly at COBO's setlist archives and found that JB has played the following NYC venues (all in the heart of the Big Apple):

Max's Kansas City, Central Park, The Palladium, The Pier,The Bottom Line, The Beacon Theatre, Radio City Music Hall & Rockefeller Center (Today Show).

Can anybody out there from Beantown, Chi-town or some city outside Florida come up with more venues in their city starting say 1973?

What About MSG?

You know the only JB show I was disappointed in was at MSG. IMHO JB don't belong there. Thanks for correcting the list.

Who can top NYC?

Back when I was living in Chicago in the 70s---I remember my uncle going to see him at the Quiet Knight or Night, however it was spelled

In Dallas I've seen him at Starplex/Smirnoff, Reunion Arena, and Texas Stadium. I know he's talked about playing at El Centro back in the day, but I didn't have the pleasure. That's still only 4, unless someone can think of some more.

The first time I saw Jimmy was in a bar, in Florida...by accident.

2nd time? He came to my hometown in 1975 and played at Mark Clark Hall.....at The Citadel...The Military College of South Carolina.
I think I paid either $3 or $5???
It was a wonderful night!

With the exception of Florida I am pretty sure that California has had the most venues.

KSAN Studio (Sausalito), Boarding House (San Fran), Berkeley, Irvine Meadows, Shoreline Amph (Mountain View), Hollywood Bowl (Hollywood), Glen Helen Regional Park (Devore), Universal Amph (Universal City), Oakland Arena, San Jose Arena and most recently Coors Amph (San Diego).

I have a feeling there might be more.

Please interrogate your uncle. I've long heard and read that JB opened for Bob Marley at Chicago's famed Quiet Knight. I figured it was in the early 70's before AWSAPC was released. . I've always wondered if I could nail the date down and find any witnesses. I might impanel a Special BN Commission. :-)

You're mixing apples and oranges. Pun intended. NYC tops any city for JB stops. You're matching a whole state against it. The judges will never approve. :-)

How about Atlanta - Lakewood, Philips Arena, Fox Theatre, Variety Playhouse - did he ever play the Omni? That's only 5, still no dice. Surely he's played some bars in Buckhead before, that would put it pretty close.

Jimmy played at the Quiet Knight very likely in '72 or '73 with Steve Goodman.
